The other thing...

Side table I got today

That I said I was going to post about took a while to get to posting, as one thing let to another. For a while now, I've been trying to get a side table for my bedroom. I was on my morning walk when I went around the back and saw one of the maintenance guys in the dumpster area (the dumpsters are surrounded by brick walls that you open a metal gate to get into). When I walked over and stepped in to say hello, I saw the above "side table like thingy" right to the side of the entrance. I said something like, "Oh, that's nice." and tried picking it up to see how much it weighed, and while it wasn't heavy, it would have been awkward to carry all the way home (roughly half a block). The maintenance guy, Ed, said, "I can bring that to you in about 20 minutes. I'm just going on my break." So I took him up on it. Sure enough, about twenty minutes or so later, there was a knock at the door, and I went to it and there was Ed with the drawers. I thanked him, brought it in myself, and looked at it a bit more closely. There were no cracks or anything, just something got spilled on the top and there was some sort of stain in the bottom drawer, too, so I got some spray cleaner and cleaned those off. Not sure what I'm going to put in the drawers, yet, but the main reason I got it was, so I'd have something to put another lamp on. Guess I'll have to visit the Good Will again, as I got my other bedroom lamp there. It may be a different shape, but I hope to get another white based lamp so I can either decorate it like I did the other one, or at least white would be neuteral. After I cleaned the drawer/side table, I moved the things that were in the box that had been in the space into the bathroom, since it had bathroom things in it, then took the box to the dumpster closer to my apartment. Now I've posted about the "other thing". Hope all is well with you in your part of myLot land!

I guess George isn't the only one to dumpster dive, lol. We got our makshift pantry and my roll top desk from a dumpster find.

True--though this wasn't actually in the dumpster, just in the dumpster enclosure. Close enough, I guess. I have five pieces of furniture now that have come from things I found in the dumpster areas.

@xstitcher Well, a dumpster dive doesn't have to be literal you know. I think it also can be used to discribe things people toss out, hoping to be picked up by waste managment.

Just before the "ill wind".
I have gotten a kick out of my one neighbor. She has made me promise to keep out of our dumpsters because it's so degrading for us to go through them. UHHHH, I have found some pretty cool stuff in the dumpsters and it's furnishings that helped me set up my apartment. So it was on top of a cloud of garbage sacks...some angels put it there just for me to find!!! I've found other great items that were well worth the check...so I still sneak a peek the morning of garbage day and a couple of times in between. It helps that I dump the baggies of used kitty litter that I've scooped several times a week. NO ONE has ever complained that my apartment smells like a litter box. Come to think of it my various homes have never been claimed to smell like a litter box!!!! Well except for Petey's farts....he let one go this morning that was worse than horrible, but fortunately the smell went away fast. He, of course, wandered off immediately after the cloud escaped from the hole....his eyes were watering, and he was sneezing trying to get the smell out of his nose.

I have five pieces of furniture I've found by the dumpster areas that work just fine. Like you said, people leave good stuff in and around dumpsters! Helped me furnish my apartment, too! There are things that I've seen that I've liked that were too big or too heavy for me to carry back to my apartment!
