Saved a life for Christmas

Well I was a volunteer for Save The Children most of the day on Wednesday and on my return home trip I took the subway. After I got off from it I decided to wait for the crowds to go away before starting to climb the stairs (there were about 40 of them). At that point a man came down the stairs, tripped and fell. I was the right man at the right time because in under 5 seconds I managed to leave my 2 bags on the ground and catch his head which was heading dangerously fast toward the steps (that would have meant either a SCAR FOR LIFE or WORSE, as the direction and speed was clear, not to mention that he would have stumbled for another 6 meters down the stairs as well. My hands stopped him 20 cm above the stair he was heading for and I got a welcome from the heart from him, although both of us were in shock as we realised what we just avoided.
So I think I did my "job" as a human being that day and probably made the best Christmas present I could this year.
Did you encounter any similar situation where you saved someone's life or someone saved you ?

Good luck to you,I think save a life is the most important thing in the world.Today there are a disaster happen in America and 28 people were killed in a primary school included 20 children,the whole world feel very sorry about that,and something make me cry is that one kid said to the media"I don't want to die,I want to have my Christmas".
Really wish this kind of disaster will never happen again.

Wow!! Talk about being in the right place at the right time. I guess you were meant to be the last one, and just standing there waiting. You have something to be Thankful for as well as this man, and something I think you will all remember for a long time.

Well done that was very quick thinking. Often in these situations everything goes into slow motion and the people surrounding the incidents seem to be frozen and unable to do anything. I am afraid that I have not saved anybody's life like that. I have given blood though, so you never know.

Hey Pikey ! Yes giving blood is also really important and it certainly saves lives, just that we don't know exactly who it is. Blood donated from 1 person is theoretically enough to save 3 lives, so you could multiply that with the number of times you have blood :)

What a piece of good luck,he was very fortunate that you were there at the right time.You were very quick thinking to react to the situation.I would like to say that if I was in the same situation you were in I would have been able to do the same though I am not sure my reactions are quick enough.Though I would hope that most people would have tried to catch him.And if I am ever in the situation that the man was in I hope someone like you is around to catch me.

That is a very inspiring story, thanks so much for sharing!
I have never been a situation when I had to save someone's life, but if I ever was I hope that even if I am in danger I will be brave enough to save the person/persons in danger.

I think as you do, we are here for one another. You did indeed save a man from a very serious injury or from even worse. I am sure that will come back to you. Good deeds are indeed rewarded, perhaps not right away and often, when you least expect it. One Christmas, my husband and I were very poor. We didn't have enough money to buy all three of our children Christmas presents. We did have enough money to buy a small gift for one homeless child, so we bought a gift from an 'Angel tree' and put that gift in the bin next to the tree. A week later, a woman who works at a charity, gave me a huge bag full of toys. That charity found out that we didn't have enough money for our own children. I really felt that we received that huge bag of wonderful toys for our children, because we gave what little we did have. I hope for you and for that man - a very Blessed and Wonderful Christmas.

I could see how appreciative and grateful he must be for your saving him at that very moment. It needs a fast mind and action to do this. You did it. I think that is wonderful, good for you...
I guess I never been anyone anyone needing saving or needed to be saved, but I do remember one time when my oldest daughter was about 4 and my son was about 1 and we lived in a house with stairs. My I was upstairs with my children when somehow my son got away from me and started towards the stairs and he almost fell down, but my daughter caught him in time..

Wow. You absolutely saved his Christmas! I never saved someone's life because I never encountered dangerous situations such as what you have encountered. But I really agree that the feeling is good if we help others. If so, how much more if we save someone's life? You did a good job in there!
