Greeted At the Gate

Callie the Calico, waiting impatiently for dinner. Photo taken by and the property of FourWalls.

After ten days on the road I’m sleeping in my own bed tonight. Apparently I’m not the only one happy about this. Pictured is a neighborhood stray whom I call Callie the Calico. When I backed in, she ran into the driveway and over the fence, happy to greet me. Or maybe, more significantly, to ask “what’s for dinner?” So, like any good slave to the feline species, I got her a can of food and some fresh water before I even unpacked. The clothes will wait, the cat will not.

No she will not. She missed you. I am sure your bed will be a welcome sight, too.

Well, I missed waiting on her tail and paw. Another 3-4 weeks and she should start bringing her kittens around for me to service as well.

I think the cat was telling you "What's for dinner?" since the same way the street cats who live in my neighborhood react when they come to the front door.

I love to be greeted by cats. I always have food cat at home, not only for my cat, but also for "the visitors".

I saw a raccoon on my back yard camera not too long ago. I know there is — or was — a groundhog out there, too.

@FourWalls We do not have raccoons here. I see a fox time by time and we have several cute hedgehogs in the garden. When I check the garden and it's dark, I see one serving himself in the cat food bowl.

She wanted to welcome you home, and then demand you feed her. It's almost like coming home to a man. lol

I am sure that you would have enjoyed that warmth of welcome.. Very true. Clothes can wait, they don't get upset . Cats can't. I was so happy to be back to my bed after a month long travel and vacation. I started missing my bed so much.

I don’t mind the vacation, but I guess everyone is the same: it’s great to go, and it’s great to come home.

@FourWalls I totally agree. I am a travel freak. I love to go to vacation. But after few days, I do feel home sick

I believe the cats know the sounds of individual vehicles and it cues them to come greet us. Bitty does not come when I get home but Bruno certainly does.

I think her “home” is a couple of doors down in the bushes. If that’s true, she sees me as well as hears me.

She still meows more than purrs, but she’s about as good as a feral can be.

I'm glad you made it home in one piece so that you could wait on the cat. And then get some rest.

I was so happy that she was jumping the fence into the back yard by the time I got out of the car to open the gate.

It's so nice to be greeted by a whinny, a baa, a woof or a meow. How could you not feed her first?

Especially since she ran to jump the fence and block the driveway so I’d have no option except to feed her first!

@FourWalls Our little cat would wait in the middle of the driveway for Vince to come home then she'd SLOWLY walk up the road ahead of the car. No amount of tooting and swearing would make her hurry.
