Another obese young man has died.

I just read that an obese young man in Great Britain had died today. He was 34 years old and over 600 pounds. Lately, I see shows online once in a while about obese people in the US who go tthrough surgery and diets. At the begining of the show it says that less than 5 percent can overcome their problems. And the question for me is what is the root of all this. Junk fook is mostly the cause as it is easy to order. But is not even very inexpensive. If I only ate the food I would not have money to reach the end of the month. As you know I live alone. If I buy a whole chicken and roast it, I can eat several days (doing a little work though). I´m sure that I can eat like a princess with half the money I´d spend on buying the same unhealthy food every day. Several years ago, I went to Miami and stayed in the house of Dixie´s eldest daughter who was then working there. She picked me up at the airport, took me to her apartment and told me that in the oven she had breaded chicken that she had bought at the supermarket. She told me how to turn on the oven and left to go to work. After some time I started to feel hungry. So I turned on the oven and waited. After a while I opened the oven door to watch the chicken. Much to my disgust, the chicken was in a pool of oil. OMG!!! I took it out, placed it in several paper napkins and took off all the bread. I then got more napkins to "dry" the rest of the oil so that I coul eat it. And ate a bit. I left the rest in the oven to give Marcela a lecture on good eating. She was then a bit overweighed and worried about it. While I was at her home I cooked while she worked. I even had time to go to the beach. I had asked Marcela what were her favorite dishes ahd she answered that she could not eat some of them because they were too expensive. I told her that it depended on the amount she ate. I cooked, fried and baked salmon (her favorite) and served it with one potato and lots of salads. She did not have to eat a whole salmon. We never ate out junk food while I was there. And we even had enough money to buy a bottle of wine once in a while

Not when she was in the US. She worked a lot so she had to buy her food.

marguicha made me check my weight and BMI. And I was so happy that I am just overweight...lower end of the band at that.. so I ate a nice large cake piece...moral of the story, don't be too happy about anything. You will reverse the condition that made you happy in the first place. LOL.

@vandana7 Years ago, we only had cakes for birthdays. Too much sugar doesn´t help us.

I think that there must be a lot of personal issues that cause this to happen. Once a person gets that heavy it is very hard, if not impossible, to get to a normal weight again. It is sad. Salmon is my favorite too. I bake it in the oven wrappen in foil with bourbon sauce on it. It comes out delicious.

@marguicha .......If you know the tricks to cooking fish then you are set Many over cook it and it is dry and tasteless. I think a lot of the problem is that they live sedentary lives. Along with that and consuming a lot a person can gain a lot of weight. I think they must think about food before survival. It is sad.

@celticeagle I have never eaten so much even for a day at a party. My stomach does not hold that amount of food, not even when I was young.

@wolfgirl569 We used to do that when the daughters were little and my husband was alive. We would go for pizza or chicken out then on Sundays. Now I can´t afford it.

Absolutly. I check once in a while, just for fun, how much do they charge for a pizza or a burger and I can buy groceries for the whole week with that money.

It's sad people live on junk food and shorten their lives doing so. 600 pounds is outrageous. I'm glad you cooked for Marcela and provided good food for her while you visited her.

She had money to buy better food and not so unhealthy. But there was none there. In some places there is not a place where you can buy food with no sugar. In my country, normal bread has no sugar at all and it is easy to fry a thin steak , or make some scrambled eggs for an easy meal that is healthy.

It is not exclusively because of food intake, I think. Some of these conditions are due to organ failure or hormonal issues. We spend so much on defense research, but haven't much time and money for such issues.

@vandana7 I agree, it's not always because of the food people eat. Though I think most of the time it is. I've been in shopping lines where people are so huge they need to use mobile scooters to get around the store then watch what they put on the conveyor belt, all junk food.

Good for you. I think some of these really obese people must feel very despondent and despair of ever losing weight. Then they eat because they feel so bad. I'm sure junk food is a big part of the problem.

While they maybe having other psychological issues, I doubt if anybody can eat that much. It is the body that is not processing, so organ failure or hormonal issues. Sad.

That is a terrible addiction, eating junk food every day of his life:( His mother didn't instill in him good eating habits!

@kobesbuddy I think that should be stopped before it is an addiction. I started to smoke during my teen years (when every movie star smoked at the movies) and it took me ages to quit.

It isn't easy to eat right sometimes. I'm lucky I have a wife at home who does her best to make sure we all eat right.

In my house I have eaten well since I was a child. So I learned by eating what my mom placed in my plate.

It's very sad !! I think home made are more healthier than outside, readymade food and if we can have home grown and freshly one it's bonus Junk food are good for taste but not for long run if we concern for our health I guess

When I went to the US with my husband the last time he had diabetes. But we could not find anything there thatdid not have sugar. We had lots of problems eating healthly there. Every salad dressing had lots of sugar. And the waitresses did not understand that we wanted our salad with no dresssing.

Not while she lived there. She worked too much and bought her food. And I have noticed that in the US it is very expensive to buy healthy prepared food.

I applaud your efforts. Fat and sugar are addictive. Overeating is also addictive. The big companies are making lots of money as they continue to help the food addicts. You're right. Serving sizes and staying away from processed food is a huge key to health.

The thing is that food addicts started not being food addicts. I think that lazy parents are the cause of chubby children who later on become obese.

I am very overweight and do not eat junk food for the most part. I am very sedentary due to my spinal issues; so it is extremely hard to lose any weight. I feel sorry for those 600 pound people and wonder if they have mental challenges that make them eat so much. Have a good week.

I hope that you can lose Some weight. I know how difficult it is for people who lead sedentary lives due to health reasons. In my house, I just don´t buy Coca Cola or the like. And I don´t add sugar to tea or coffee. That means a lot.
