Football and an Indian team. Perhaps not much to talk about considering that India is probably not even among the top 100 in the world. It was not so bad when Indian Football team came 4th in the 1956 Olympics. It won 1951 and 1962 Asian Games Gold. The Indian Football team qualified for the 1950 World Cup Football but the newly independent India's Government refused to fund a team lacking even quality sports shoes ! However, the talk is about a gem of player in a team which has lagged in Football (Soccer). It is Sunil Chhetri. He played for India for almost 20 years. He is not only the highest Indian Goal scorer but at 90 plus goals he is the 4th ranked internationally !! A big record considering that the Indian team is recovering even at the Asian level. He led India to some great victories. A legendary player who has a big fan following also. He has announced retirement but would forever remain a legend of the Indian Football! Even though I have never heard of Sunil Chhetri before he deserves his retirement from playing soccer for 20 years.

@Deepizzaguy I expected that. Moreover, overall Indian Soccer ranking is not good. By the way, do you follow International Soccer personally?

It is sad that a government couldn't get them even the footwear, that is basic. I am sorry he is retiring but I am glad he won many hearts and stepped down in style

@grenery8 That was just after Indian Independence when India had to rebuild after almost 200 years of British rule or do I say misrule!

The government should really focus on promoting sports to their people. Sports is like one way for people not to get themselves involved into trouble.
