Day 121 – Covering Numbers 4:1 Then JEHOVAH spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, 2 “Take a census of the sons of Kohath from among the children of Levi, by their families, by their fathers’ house, 3 from thirty years old and above, even to fifty years old, those who enter the service to do the work in the tabernacle of meeting. 4 This is the service of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of meeting, relating to the most holy things: 5 When the camp prepares to journey, Aaron and his sons will come, and they will take down the covering veil and cover the ark of the Testimony with it. 6 Then they will put on it a covering of badger skins and spread over it a cloth entirely of blue; and insert its poles. 7 On the table of showbread they will spread a blue cloth, and put on it the dishes, the pans, the bowls, and the pitchers for pouring; and the showbread will be on it. 8 They will spread over them a scarlet cloth and cover the same with a covering of badger skins; and insert its poles. 9 They will take a blue cloth and cover the lampstand of the light, with its lamps, its wick-trimmers, its trays, and its oil vessels, with which they service it. 10 Then they will put it with its utensils in a covering of badger skins and put it on a carrying beam. 11 Over the golden altar they will spread a blue cloth and cover it with a covering of badger skins; and insert its poles. 12 Then they will take the utensils of service with which they minister in the sanctuary, put them in a blue cloth, cover them with a covering of badger skins, and put them on a carrying beam. 13 Also, they will take away the ashes from the altar, and spread a purple cloth over it. 14 They will put on it its implements with which they minister there—the firepans, the forks, the shovels, the basins, and all the utensils of the altar—and they will spread on it a covering of badger skins and insert its poles. 15 When Aaron and his sons finish covering the sanctuary and the furnishings of the sanctuary, when the camp is set to go, then the sons of Kohath will come to carry them; but they will not touch any holy thing, lest they die. These are the things in the tabernacle of meeting which the sons of Kohath are to carry. 16 “The appointed duty of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest is the oil for the light, the sweet incense, the daily grain offering, the anointing oil, the oversight of all the tabernacle, of all that is in it, with the sanctuary and its furnishings.” 17 Then JEHOVAH spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, 18 “Do not cut off the tribe of the families of the Kohathites from among the Levites; 19 but do this in regard to them, that they may live and not die when they approach the most holy things: Aaron and his sons will go in and appoint each of them to his service and his task. 20 But they will not go in to watch while the holy things are being covered, lest they die.” 21 Then JEHOVAH spoke to Moses, saying, 22 “Also take a census of the sons of Gershon, by their fathers’ house, by their families. 23 From thirty years old and above, even to fifty years old, you will number them, those who enter to perform the service, to do the work in the tabernacle of meeting. 24 This is the service of the families of the Gershonites, in serving and carrying: 25 They will carry the curtains of the tabernacle and the tabernacle of meeting with its covering, the covering of badger skins that is on it, the screen for the door of the tabernacle of meeting, 26 the screen for the door of the gate of the court, the hangings of the court which are around the tabernacle and altar, and their cords, the furnishings for their service and everything made for these things; so will they serve. 27 Aaron and his sons will assign the service of the sons of the Gershonites, their tasks and their service. You will appoint them their tasks as their duty. 28 "This is the service of the families of the sons of Gershon in the tabernacle of meeting. Their duties will be under the authority of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest. 29 “As for the sons of Merari, you will number them by their families and by their fathers’ house. 30 From thirty years old and above, even to fifty years old, you will number them, everyone who enters the service to do the work of the tabernacle of meeting. 31 This is what they must carry as their service for the tabernacle of meeting: the boards of the tabernacle, its bars, its pillars, its sockets, 32 and the pillars around the court with their sockets, pegs, and cords, with their furnishings and their service; and you will assign to each man by name the items he must carry. 33 This is the service of the families of the sons of Merari, as their service for the tabernacle of meeting, under the authority of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.” 34 Moses, Aaron, and the leaders of the congregation numbered the sons of the Kohathites by their families and by their fathers’ house, 35 from thirty years old and above, even to fifty years old, everyone who entered the service for work in the tabernacle of meeting; 36 and those who were numbered by their families were two thousand seven hundred and fifty. 37 These were the ones who were numbered of the families of the Kohathites, those who might serve in the tabernacle of meeting, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the commandment of JEHOVAH by the hand of Moses. 38 Those who were numbered of the sons of Gershon, by their families and by their fathers’ house, 39 from thirty years old and above, even to fifty years old, everyone who entered the service for work in the tabernacle of meeting— 40 those who were numbered by their families, by their fathers’ house, were two thousand six hundred and thirty. 41 These are the ones who were numbered of the families of the sons of Gershon, of those who might serve in the tabernacle of meeting, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the commandment of JEHOVAH. 42 Those of the families of the sons of Merari who were numbered, by their families, by their fathers’ house, 43 from thirty years old and above, even to fifty years old, everyone who entered the service for work in the tabernacle of meeting— 44 those who were numbered by their families were three thousand two hundred. 45 These are the ones who were numbered of the families of the sons of Merari, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the word of JEHOVAH by the hand of Moses. 46 Everyone who were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses, Aaron, and the leaders of Israel numbered, by their families and by their fathers’ houses, 47 from thirty years old and above, even to fifty years old, everyone who came to do the work of service and the work of bearing burdens in the tabernacle of meeting— 48 those who were numbered were eight thousand five hundred and eighty. 49 According to the commandment of JEHOVAH they were numbered by the hand of Moses, each according to his service and according to his task; thus, were they numbered by him, as JEHOVAH commanded Moses. God’s names: JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal Iesous – Jesus Christos – Anointed One Pneuma – Spirit, Breath Theos – Supreme Divinity, God God’s Character: Appointee Every organization has a leader who appoints tasks to their subordinates. Those tasks belong only to those selected for the duty. JEHOVAH appointed specific tasks to the families of the Kohath, Merari, and Gershon. He told Moses to number a specific age group among those families to perform the duty of the tabernacle. They could not start work in the tabernacle until they reached thirty years of age, and not over the age of fifty. With the birth of Iesous, you see He did not start His ministry until the age of thirty. His lineage put Him in two tribes of Israel—Judah and Levi. His cousin John the Baptist was born to Zachariah and Elizabeth of the house of Levi. Therefore, He could go into the Holy of Holies and pour His blood upon the altar. Hebrews 9:11 But Christos came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. 12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christos, who through the eternal Pneuma offered Himself without spot to Theos, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living Theos? Only the high priest could go into the sanctuary to cover the golden altar, candlestick, and table of showbread with its utensils. Iesous could go into the sanctuary because He is our High Priest. With His blood, Iesous paved the way for you to enter the Holy of Holies to offer your sacrifices of praise to Theos. His blood canceled out the blood sacrifice of bulls and goats and made a way for you to come before Him without fear of death. As the priests covered the altar, candlestick, and table of showbread, Iesous’ blood covers you and gives you safe passage into the sanctuary. Have you accepted Iesous as Savior and Lord? If not, you can do so now. Then you too will be covered in the blood of Iesous to stand before Theos without the fear of death on your life. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for covering me with the blood of Your Son so I can stand in Your presence free from the penalty of death. Let my sacrifice of praise come into Your presence as I give You praise for my salvation. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 18 May 2024 by Valerie Routhieaux The image belongs to me.

We all have specific tasks and roles to play. Rightly said that the world is a stage, we are the actors and the Supreme God is the director. Let's do our roles with full sincerity and devotion.

It is interesting that God wanted the tabernacle workers to be greater than 30. Perhaps he wanted them to be experienced in the world, a bit, before taking on these sacred duties.

More mature. Jesus didn't start His ministry until He turned 30 too. Have a blessed day.

@innertalks Yes, He does. But for the work of the church, God stated a specific age. I've seen the same age in government offices. I've heard that getting positions like that early in life can cause people to become arrogant and not do the job the way it should be done. So, maturity in that sense means being wise in how you handle yourself and the position. Have a blessed day.

@just4him And yet, Jesus's mother was very young, said to be only in her teens, when she had him. Maturity is perhaps more an individual thing then, but generally, maturity must be gained in life, by more living of life. David was only around 15 years of age when anointed by Samuel, as God had seen that his heart was pure. I guess God's plan is what it is, and sometimes he uses people at a younger age too.
