Is walking good enough to lose weight?

Perth, Australia

I have a goal to lose some weight before my birthday ( in February ). Obviously I know eating well plays a major role when trying to lose weight and be healthy. But when it comes to exercising, what is the best way to lose weight? I do love some dancing exercises and I do them often but would love to hear what you have in mind or what you know has worked for you. And does walking every day help out? My walks are 45 minutes long. Is that enough to lose weight from stomach, butt and thighs? My target areas are my stomach, arms, butt and thighs. Just any random information you throw at me in regards to losing weight and toning specific areas will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Along with a diet, of course, any exercising is good but I find that walking at least an hour every day works fine. A brisk walk not just ambling along. In winter it is difficult for me to do an hour every day but as soon as the weather warms up again that will be my target again and if I can do more then even better. Walking helps with the circularion but that only kicks in after at least 40 minues.

@mysdianait Thank you so much for your answer. Answers like yours just help to motivate me. It is summer here now so quite hot but will try to at least do walks in the evening time when it's a bit cooler.

@VivaLaDani13 Or even early in the morning. That is when I prefer to walk as I then still have all day left and if I have time I can walk again in the evening too. I have an app on my phone that tells me how long I have been walking and I set it to 50 minutes so that I get a flag every time that I do walk an hour

Any exercise that you enjoy and will do, is best! That way you will stick to it! For me, I love walking, I love my bike, and I really love swimming. I also enjoy dance and adore Richard Simmons and Zumba!

I love that dude he is so energetic even when not exercising lol I will see if there's any of his exercises on YouTube, Thank you!

@VivaLaDani13 There are a lot of ways one can lose weight. Walking does help. Cutting out things that are not good helps and eating less and knowing when you are full helps then stop eating. Dancing is good. Keep up what you are doing.

Walking is good but I don't know about losing fat around the stomach. In my case that seems to stay

@VivaLaDani13 Ab exercises should help that area out too. But walking will help all areas of our bodies eventually.

@responsiveme No worries. Thank you very much for your comment. I have read a few things online and apparently there's no specific exercise to target stomach fat. There are exercises to tone stomach though. But something must work though because many people lose weight around their stomachs. Walking will do for now.

Just a bit stress can help in losing weight.

@Janet357 It can do but also helps in gaining weight too lol I've dealt with both. Stress / depression. Can lead both ways. Guess it depends on the body but even if stress was a way to lose weight I'd still rather find another method. Being stressed is literally stressful lol

@Janet357 I vary when I'm stressed. Like I could eat a lot or literally nothing at all until my stomach hurts. Even my sleep pattern is awful. I mean it usually is but more so when stressed. I will either stay up for way over 24 hours or sleep the day away. It always changes with me.

I have a you tube channel I work out with that could help you out but I'm in the trailer & the video is on my desktop which I'm on my laptop for now but when I get in the cabin sometime today I can send it to you & being I lost my gallbladder I drink a glass of Chocolate (whey protein drink) A glass every other week to keep my weight at 160lbs. You remember me telling you I weighed 200 lbs? well since I crashed & went from 200 to barely 140 lbs & now I'm at 160, & SO FAR that's where I've been staying just by the food I eat which is NO sugar, no carbs, & no fatty fried foods, & being I have type 2 Diabetes I HAVE no choice but to watch what I eat & KEEP active helps.

@2ndchances24 Yeah it becomes a bit more specific when being diabetic. I lost quite some kilos since being sick too. Wasn't all that long ago I lost 6 kilos (13lbs. says the converter) in about 6 days which isn't healthy. I didn't mean to.

@VivaLaDani13 That's not too bad, compared to losing 60 lbs. in less than a week like I did with all the poison they drained out of me.

One problem with losing weight is...we tend to lose even on face... that is bad. Second problem is, if we exercise, there will always be moments when we don't feel up to it, may be some bad news, or some bad health. The fat returns with vengeance...and lodges itself in wrong places. Third problem, as you know ...eating boring food is no fun. On the flip side, hospital bills will be lower, and we can fit into more beautiful dresses, and somebody might think ..well, she is not that fat, so I guess the flooring of my house will last longer. Final take...accept yourself as beautiful person. To hell with the rest of the world.

@VivaLaDani13 Dani you are very pretty girl. While I would not dissuade you, I would not want you to accept others as your standard because each one of us is made differently. If it is dresses ..you might want to learn how to stitch, go for fashion designing course, or something. I would have done that. Then searched for the material that I liked and stitched as I wanted. There is always some compromise involved in wearing ready made garments.

@vandana7 Your answer was brilliant thank you! Your last sentences had me laughing so much though lol No really thank you for your answer, it was very well said and I agree with it all. I do personally want to lose this weight though. I'm sick of trying on new clothes at the store only to have a little silent tantrum in the changing room because it doesn't fit me or looks awful on me. So I'm doing this for myself and to be healthier.

@vandana7 Thank you for the compliment Vanny. But no I am still doing this for just me. So I like what I see in the mirror. I'm not wanting to be like any one else but I have gained quite a bit and prefer my older weight which more healthy and made me happy. I'm not happy in my body right now so losing weight will just add more happiness and confidence into my life.

Walking is a very healthy form of exercise. I would encourage you to walk between 45 minutes to an hour, at a brisk pace, if you can. Weightlifting can also help you burn calories and tone your body as well. What makes lifting weights beneficial is that muscles burn calories faster than anything else in your body, so the more you lift, the more muscle you build, and the more calories you will burn! I alternate each day between aerobic exercise (running, biking, walking, etc) and lifting weights. I usually don't spend more than an hour any given day. Good luck to you!

Walking is good but it has to be quick enough to get the heart pumping and burn some of those calories. Any exercise that you are going to stick with is good. Just keep moving, eat well and you will be doing yourself good.

You really do not have to walk that long. Many do just 15 minutes or so. There is no quick fix on this.but excersize and workout are fine.Better yet a PT is good also. There is no best way. This is up to you.

@amadeo Thank you so much for your answer. I didn't even consider a PT. I think that is a brilliant idea. Someone to help me and motivate me. Thank you!
