Have You Ever Thought Going To Live In A Nursing Home?

I talked to a friend and she have thought about going to a nursing home. Well, that is better than harming herself. She's 79 and has fairly good health and still drives. I know things in the economy is bad and not looking good, but I don't think I'd want to live in a nursing home, especially if reasonable health, and drive. Do you think a person like this has reached a level of deep depression.. Would you like to live in a nursing home?

It can be a safer place to live. But she could check into senior apartments. Many of those have activities she could participate in and make some new friends

@popciclecold I know the apartments would be a lot cheaper than a nursing home

I would not like to live in a nursing home, but the mother of my neighbors wanted to go to live in the local nursing home. She was scared to be alone in her house.

@popciclecold - Those poor old people have not been protected enough in the nursing homes.

No. However, I have considered an “independent living” campus.

Never heard of that. It has to be better than a nursing home.

My husband I are trying to eat healthy. We're vegetarians, choosing to not harm animals. Many nursing homes do not have a clue about eating fresh food. A nursing home is a large commune; everybody generally eats when everybody else does etc.

A senior living arrangement is better than a nursing home. They usually have activities and meals available. I still think she needs professional help for her depression. Good luck.

Best to live at home and get an aid. Maybe she can find out how to get a health aid to come visit

As I see what people write here, the elderly need mental care. Does she need to be near her children or another family member instead of being alone?

I think I would live in a nursing home if I was no longer able to take care of myself. If I can still walk, cook simple meals and take care of myself, I can live alone. This is just what I think at this moment. I don't know how I will feel when I get old?!
