I have an important question so I can stay on myLot??

May 2, 2024 9:24am CST
Good morning myLot! I have a VERY important question. If I start a myLot discussion or read other persons and the upper left-hand corner says high memory usage,( as you may have guessed I am as loquacious in my writing as I am in my talking Does that mean a lot of memory is being used that I will NOT get back? Or will I get it back when I leave the site or turn off my laptop I think I read happens with something called RAM memory. But I don't know if myLot has that kind of memory. I ADORE my therapist and she doesn't have space for me for the next two weeks but at the end of the month, she has Thursdays mornings every week same time for me. I need the memory on my computer as that is very important to me Can anybody PLEASE help me?

Some browsers use more of your computer's resorceses to do the same thing as others. Chrome is one of the most popular, but one of the largest memory hogs. But once you're done using it, the memory goes back down. You only have to worry about memory if you're flooding your computer with files, photos and videos you've saved onto it directly. Same with apps and games. For low-key use you should be fine.

@LovesEverybody No. You won't lose memory for watching youtube. Just like mylot, you only use memory when you're using the browser. Once you stop using it, then that's taken out of your ram. (random access memory) it's the memory that your computer sets aside for using the device, running a browser, using background apps, etc. When you stop and close out of an App like your browser, that memory is no longer being used for that task, and your computer will continue to fuction normally.

Thank you! If I watch YouTube and do not download the videos would I get my memory back when I leave the site or will it take up permanent space in my computer? I am not even sure what a file is or how to put one in. nor do I do videos besides watching YouTube but I don't download any videos. .

That is only memory being used while on this site. No, it does not keep using it when you leave the site. And it is not the same type of 'memory' that you use to store files/photos/etc on your computer.

@LovesEverybody I know the feeling. I learned to use a computer in the library by asking children how to do things. My kids spent years saying, "Mom, I can't believe you don't know how to do that. Well, believe it because I don't."

@akalinus Kids these days are amazing. I don't see kids in the library whom I could ask and who would teach me. I go to the library when they are in school.

I see that our Admin very well explained to you that the memory is only being used while you are on this site. So do not worry Jennifer, when you quit myLot, the memory is back to your laptop.

@LovesEverybody - The memory always gets back to the computer (or laptop) when we close a site or the browser.

You received good explanations. Chrome uses a lot of RAM memory, but when we close the browser the memory is still there.

do you mean with Chrome we get the memory back when we close the browser? I am a little confused.
