Day 114 – Code of Conduct Leviticus 24:10 Now the son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel; and this Israelite woman’s son and a man of Israel fought each other in the camp. 11 The Israelite woman’s son blasphemed the name of JEHOVAH and cursed; and they brought him to Moses. (His mother’s name was Shelomith the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.) 12 Then they put him in custody, to know the mind of JEHOVAH. 13 JEHOVAH spoke to Moses, saying, 14 “Take outside the camp him who has cursed; then let all who heard him lay their hands on his head, and let the congregation stone him. 15 Then you will speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘Whoever curses his Elohiym will bear his sin. 16 Whoever blasphemes the name of JEHOVAH will die. The congregation will stone him, the stranger as well as him who is born in the land. When he blasphemes the name of JEHOVAH, he will die. 17 ‘Whoever kills any man will die. 18 ‘Whoever kills an animal will make it good, animal for animal. 19 ‘If a man causes disfigurement of his neighbor, as he has done, his neighbor will do to him— 20 fractures for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; as he caused disfigurement of a man, so it will happen to him. 21 ‘Whoever kills an animal will restore it; but whoever kills a man will die. 22 You will have the same law for the stranger and for one from your own country; for I am JEHOVAH your Elohiym.’” 23 Then Moses spoke to the children of Israel; and they took outside the camp him who had cursed and stoned him with stones. The children of Israel did as JEHOVAH commanded Moses. God’s names: JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal Elohiym – Mighty God Iesous – Jesus – Greek God’s character: Judge Most people know the golden rule: Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Many people practice a slightly different golden rule: Do to others before others do to you. You see a lot of that in today’s world with the violence you see on the news. The children of Israel heard a person curse and blaspheme Elohiym and JEHOVAH and wanted to know what to do with the person. JEHOVAH told the people how to punish the person who harmed another person or cursed and blasphemed Elohiym and JEHOVAH. Blasphemy carried the death sentence. Harming another person brought the same harm to the person who harmed him. If you call yourself a Christian, people expect you to act like one and not like the world. They will even quote the Bible, even though they’ve never read it. They are aware of the eye for eye, tooth for tooth rule. They’re also quick to administer the punishment if you look at them wrong or say a wrong word. Iesous told the people how they were to treat those who treated them badly in His Sermon on the Mount. Matthew 5:38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 I tell you not to resist an evil person. Whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40 If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. 41 And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 Give to him who asks you, and to him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away. When you follow this code of conduct, you follow the golden rule. Iesous went on to tell the people how they were to treat their enemies and neighbors. Matthew 5:43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You will love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 If you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? 48 Therefore, you will be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect. When you follow Elohiym’s code of conduct, people will know you are a Christian. They won’t tell you how you are to treat others, they will see it in you. I will go further to say Elohiym will take care of the person who blasphemes Him. Today people use Elohiym’s name in vain. It’s more than a curse word, it’s part of their everyday language. You can tell them not to use such language around you, but they don’t realize they said anything wrong. Therefore, it’s up to you to act and speak like the Christian, you claim you are. When people see your behavior lines up with Elohiym’s Word, they will have nothing to say to you about your behavior. Let’s pray: Father, let my words and actions line up with Your Word. Let people see me for the Christian I am, acting fully like You in every way. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. It makes me cringe whenever I hear somebody using God's name, or Jesus's name, in vain. I am glad though, that Jesus came and rescinded those old laws about stoning people, telling us to love our enemies instead, and to always go that extra mile with everybody, including our enemies too.

It does me too. I don't know if those laws are rescinded. I'm sure there are some countries that still do that. Have a blessed day.

@just4him Well, Jesus, didn't rescind them directly, I suppose, but he did make us think, of loving someone first, and reminded us that, who are we, a sinner, to throw that first stone.
