Ok, I'm sure most of you have heard the "announcement" about the race horse that was announced to be "gay". Now, I've heard of some strange things in my life but a GAY animal? COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you think this is true or do you think it's another technique to get some free press and create a stir?

LOL.... yes, that's called animal nature. It's not a matter of "gayness" as it's a matter of what feels good no matter who or what it is. And it can be quite embarassing. LOL

As for the fcow mounting the other cow. That is very natural. I really don't know why they do it but basically if a cow is coming into heat, she will begin by mounting or attmepting to mount other cows. When she is in full heat (and ready to be put with a bull or artifically insemenated, depending on how you do things on your farm) she will stand and allow other cows to mount her and pump. Yes, it is strange and more than a little disturbing. My son has asked me why the cows jump all over each other and well ( I know I shouldn't) but I just avoid the whole thing.... I just keep him away from the barn yard around certain cows at certain times.

Ya know, I used to wrestle with the fact of "oh quick hide them" but then I came to realize that it's so much a part of nature and while we don't have to go into details, etc. at a young age we probably could easily explain it as that's their way of showing each other love, like when people hug and hold and kiss each other. I realized that once I didn't push them away it was no big deal to them. If they would comment they'd simply say "look, they're in love" and walk away. LOL I think many adults went "DUH" after my kids did that, thinking "you're right, what's the big deal". Of course standing there and taking in the entire event wasn't on our course of study! LOL

Yes, animals can be gay. I live and was born and rasied on a farm and we had a few animals over the years that were gay and wouldn't reproduce for obvious reasons. It really just goes to show that being GAY is a part of life in general and is as normal as being straight.

Well I for one believe that animals can be gay. We have 2 female dogs here at home. Now when 1 in on heqat, the other one will actualy mount her and stay there as if something as taken place between them. The bottom dog will actually put her tail to the side as if she is letting the other dog 'in' so to speak. Now the bottom dog will NOT let male dogs do this while she is on heat, just female dogs.

I didn't hear this announcement but we have a male cat, the only one in our house not fixed of all the 4 cats. He will try to mount the other male cats. Go figure.

Yes animals can be gay. For example two of our male cats are and yes there are female cats here. They prefer to snuggle together, clean each other and just sleep side by side. It's been well documented that homosexuality does happen in animals, many of which mate for life. So yes horses can be just as much as any other animal.
