I'm finally learning it.....

May 31, 2012 5:23am CST
I purchased my first guitar. It was just an acoustic guitar, black in color and are really perfect for me. I really love it because it's a dream for me to have a guitar and be able to sing better along with it. I thought that playing it was easy but it's hard. And because of that thought, I got to the point that I'm not even playing it anymore. It's just there sitting on the corner of my room. I don't find my enthusiasm to learn how to play it. It feels like my heart is not in it. I always complain on how my fingers hurts every time I tried to play it and the shifting of chords was really hard.It became my excuse every time my family asked why am I not playing my guitar anymore. Then, I had the idea that maybe I can ask my friend to help me from it. And there it is! I see myself playing and practicing my guitar skills. I can already feel that my heart is into it and even putted a much more effort to improve my skills. Thanks to my friend because she's the source of all the wisdom I'm getting right now. I always think of the things and experiences she had when she's just like me, starting on how to play a guitar. My tip? Write it down. The reasons why you want to learn how to play it. That way, when you feel like giving up(like what I did)you can re-read your reasons to get motivated again. Stick to it. Experts say that it takes maybe a month for a new activity to become a habit. If you want to spend 30 minutes on your guitar lessons, it will take at least a month before it just seems normal-so don't expect it to be easy right away. Schedule it. Plan for it like you would have a dentist's appointment. Even when your phone is going like crazy, at least you remember it when you say you'll play your guitar. Keep trying. Keep finding ways on how to improve more aside from what you learn from your tutor. Search for advance lessons when you're tutor is still teaching the basics. And always practice and focus specially on the parts you're finding it hard. Hope my experience and my tips help you. even a little bit. :)

Great to hear about your experience with your new guitar. i am too contemplating on getting a guitar for me in the coming days. Nowadays guitar has become a very popular musical instrument thanks to the growing pop and band culture everywhere. Guitar is very pleasant to hear and it is because of this that it is extensively used in musical nights and concerts.

Good going dary. I am happy for you and thanks to your friend who inspired you to play your guitar. Nice things happen to nice people. I really like your tips how you have put it. It is a good start for you. it is really true to get habituated to something you have to do it at least a month and it will feel normal. Have a good day

First of all, welcome to mylot! It's so nice to see a new person on mylot not talking about money! But anyway, back to the discussion... Thank you for sharing your inspiring story! I actually just posted a discussion about my lack of enthusiasm to learn programming and how I can't get past the basics but your story has given me a spark of inspiration that I needed to get going again. I hope you continue to learn and enjoy playing the guitar.

I've tried it but I love my fingers and using them on playing guitars make them have calluses that's the reason why I stopped. I like singing and when I was a teenager I really wanted to play the guitar while singing plus it was cool at that time when you know how to play the guitar. Unfortunately for me I did stop. I hope you won't stop playing the guitar though. If you really love music this will become natural to you. Good luck!

Wow, I can still remember how I felt the day I got my own guitar. Sadly, I was able to only take basic lessons for it. The desire to learn how to play a guitar was influenced by my then guitarist bf. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to progress on a more advance level. I can just do church hymns and a few simple tunes. I still have the guitar here with me, and I'm thinking of teaching myself again. We'll see...

I am a music lover, too, yet I do not know how to lay the guitar even if we have some musical instruments. The instruments hates me,so I am just contented in touching the drum, the guitar, the bass, the flute, the organ, and many others. My friends have tried to teach me how to play each instruments, yet I am not born a player.I just wish I could become one day yet I am just in my dreams.

It is great that you have started to play the guitar, because music is something that is so amazing once you can make it yourself. When I got my guitar, I couldn't play anything, but within just a couple of weeks I found that I was able to play small amounts and it was the best thing that I ever did. There is something that is incredibly amazing about picking up a guitar and just being able to play the chords to your favourite song and singing the words to it. It makes you free, and means that you can sing whenever you like without having to worry about playing a backing track or anything like that. I love music and I am so glad that I am able to enjoy it.

Yeah I know how to play bass and guitar and it's actually pretty easy to learn once you get your fingers strong enough to be able to play for a while. I love learning new styles on it and it's great playing songs that I love to listen to because it helps you gain influence to create your own style as well. If you practice the scales and the different techniques like hammer ons, pull offs, slides, tapping, and all the other different things you can do you will get a lot better in a short amount of time.

Start simple and progress to increase interests. - It is interests that will boost your practise.
If the interests are there , the guitar is good instrument to learn.I learn through learning the important chords first , after that can play songs using the simple cords and this simple increase my interests to further practise more and more , until the finger bleed , pus and thicken the finger tips flesh become calussed. Play the songs u like and listen to music and play together nice.

If you need a motivation to learn and play guitar, you should listen to this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SY8gB2i_hxc Drag the video to 1 minute 45 seconds. Because the first 1.45 minute is his talk :) after that the music starts. He plays the guitar very well. That music captured my mind. I am inspired by him and started to learn from his tutorial videos. Really nice :)

There is definitely a lot fo great things you can do on a guitar. I love playing it, specially classic music and it's beatuiful touch and technique. A lot of hard work may be required, but at the end is worth it. I hope you enjoy your new instrument and be able to do art with it.
