is being content the secret to being happy

I often wonder if I would be happier if I just decided to be content with what I have in life and not look to constantly improve my position in life. Or would this lead to other areas of unhappiness coming from growing stagnant in my life and never achieving anything?

I certainly believe that a person that is totally content is one that will be happy. It is a miserable person that doesn't appreciate what he or she has. I do believe that it is worth having hopes for the future. I have traveled to some developing countries where the poor local people are happy. In the rich countries many people are not at all happy. They wish for more money and things he is she not likely to get. I live in a three bedroom bungalow and I feel that it is my forever home. I am not expecting to get a better place to live in my lifetime. I am happy to have lovely children and wonderful dogs. I look back to happy memories and hope to get more of them in the future. In life it is wonderful to be happy and each person should write a list of the things in his or her life which he or she is happy for.

Hi, You are right. For being happy we should be contented with whatever we have. The happiest people don't have everything in life. they just keep creating situations that brings happens everyday.

Satisfaction is the greatest happiness a lot of people say that. I would say that I don't feel that it is right to get satisfied with what you have you.Everybody should try to reach the sky or in other words you have to be more ambitious in life and always try to be the best. The only thing that I can say is never get content with what you have and as you said that it might make you feel that you could have done more than what you did.

Contentment and happiness may not be the same, but they go hand in hand. If a person is contented with his life it doesn;t mean that you're life becomes stagnant. It just means that you are accepting what you have in life but it doesn't stop there. Because if there are any other opportunities that comes your way, you will still be ready to face it. And if there were any problems, you are ready to face it and deal with it too.

I think contented people are happy, so yes to your question. However there are lots of things that make us happier, the old advice is to 'count your blessings' that works very well. Making other people happy also means that some of their happiness brushes off on us. Of course we need to improve ourselves in various ways. Chasing after money isn't one of them, nor are unrealistic goals. You do not sound like someone who is going to get stagnant, so forget about that and enjoy being someone with a lively mind.
