An anecdote for my MyLot friends

There was once a wise guru living in the far-flung barrio of the country. He was known to speak to himself and sometimes to anyone who wants to listen.
One day a crowd of young people gathered around and requested him to talk about any topic he wants to.
He did not react at first but brought out plates of different designs, colors, and brands. Then he instructed them to choose the plate that they fancy the most.
One by one the youth got the plate of their choice. Only one plate was left on the table. It was a simple and old rattan-made plate.
“So why did you choose your plates?” the guru asked.
“Because it looks classy,” replied one.
“I like its incredible design,” said another one.
“I like its porcelain finish,” answered another one.
“So, you based all your choices on the outside appearance of the plate.” The guru stated sotto voce. “You’re too drawn to the external beauty of things instead of their innate beauty.”
“Do you know that all of your choices would eventually break and nothing would be left of it, except for this old, rattan-made plate?”
He held up the rattan plate for all to see.
“It’s not shiny and good to look at from the outside but its true beauty is innate based on its strength, durability, and usefulness. Next time you choose something, consider first its innate value before its external appearance.”

In a world where people care a lot about how things look, this story wants us to stop and think. It tells us to look for the good things that are hidden inside, beyond what we can see easily. Just like the plain-looking rattan plate that was actually very strong and useful, people also have special qualities inside them that we should notice and value.
When we focus more on what's inside rather than just what's on the outside, we can learn more about others and build stronger connections. We start to appreciate things like their character, ability to bounce back from tough times, and the value they bring to our lives. We learn to see what lasts and matters instead of what is only temporary and not so important.
The story wants us to listen to the wise person's advice and change the way we make choices. Let's look past the shiny surface and dig deeper to understand what things and people are really like. When we do this, we can see the true beauty that is hidden inside. By valuing what's inside, we can find happiness, be true to ourselves, and have a deep respect for the many different parts that make up our lives.

I agree... It wouldn't end well for everyone. Yes, that's one way of viewing it. As elders in my country would say: "Hindi mo makakain ang kaguwapuhan." (literally translated - You cannot eat handsomeness.) or in other words good looks per se cannot put food on the table.2 people like this

That's true we should consider the innate values but usually people don't do the same , it's the outer appearance always that matters

That explains the break up and divorce with local and US celebrities now a days. it's all about the external beauty. Yeah that pretty sums up the generation these days.

Outer beauty is often what attracts someone but sometimes that is all it is a shell and no inner beauty,
