I have seen countries change their name during my lifetime.

Things change. I change I have seen countries change their name. I can still remember the beautiful stamps I was given when I was a child. They were from Cyrenaica and Eritrea. Later on, my sister in law married an English member of the English Embassy and went to live in Rhodesia. Do they still exist? I do hope that the animals pictured in the stamps still do. But their names might have changed. Now Rhodesia is Zimbabwe. My first post today was deleted. I cannot say that it was because I clicked on a wrong letter. I am sure that it was because I typed the right letters. So be it. So today I´ll wash clothes (the sun is bright) and go on trying to find a med for my ears that disappeared. Later I´ll cook, eat and do some chores. I love you all. See you. Or not.

@marguicha @fleura Two weeks after our family moved to Nyasaland in 1964 it changed its name to Malawi. All very confusing for a 6 year old boy.

My friend's Italian father-in-law lived in several different countries without ever moving from Trieste!

@Fleura Ah Trieste. A chequered history it has indeed. And if there’s ever a united Ireland I’ll completely forget who I am. I’ll suddenly become … oh it’s too complicated.

Actually There was Northern Rhodesia - now Zambia Southern Rhodesia - now Zimbabwe Turkey is now Turkiye Plus more name and entity changes. Remember Yugoslavia - which got divided into multiple countries. I need to check for more name changes as well.

I remember very well that in the past Iran was called Persia (they had the Shas Reza Pahlavi and they made a big mistake wanting to change). Holland was officially changed to "The Netherlands" in 2020. The list is long.

Eritrea was annexed by Ethiopia in the 1950s and regained independence in the 1990s. Rhodesia became Zimbabwe in 1980. I had never heard of Cyrenaica before; apparently it's part of Libya. Yes names do change, even countries change. When I was a child there was the USSR, East and West Germany, Cyprus (all one country), Czechoslovakia. Rhodesia was still the name of Zimbabwe, Myanmar was Burma, Laos was part of Vietnam I think, Sri Lanka was Ceylon.

There have been so many name changes for countries over the last 50 years or so. Have a great day.
