What do you eat on Spring Holidays?

We celebrate Easter in our family. My kids got Easter Baskets with green shreds for grass. We filled the basket with candy and small toys, often chicks or bunnies. It seems that they stuffed themselves with too much candy. We usually had ham with the fixings for dinner. Sometimes, we ate turkey instead of ham. We always started the morning with hard-boiled eggs. The kids put them in dye and then decorated them. They had fun and got to eat egg salad sandwiches the next day. Do you celebrate any spring holidays? What do you eat? What are your traditions?

I no longer celebrate Easter, I mean I acknowledge Easter as a religious holiday and family holiday but I no longer have anyone to celebrate with, Back in Latvia with my husband we used to have a special Easter dinner and begin the day with colored eggs just for the fun of it. Sometimes we hid eggs on each other and that was always fun,

@RasmaSandra Yes, they are. Some years, I took them to a big egg hunt with big prizes (candy) to find as well as eggs. They started using plastic eggs with candy or toys in them because the health people did not want eggs sitting around in a field.

I know the feeling. My husband is gone and my kids are in another state. When they were little, they always started the day with Easter baskets with candy and little toys. We had an egg hunt some years. Sometimes it was too snowy and cold to go outside.

Growing up, we'd dye aggs and go on an easter egg hunt. Now, I don't do anything except be thankful I made it another year. Thankful I'm sitting at my desk this year, instead of a hospital room.

@akalinus I agree. I'm thankful everyday for it. It makes me happy being able to sit in my broken down wheelchair turned office chair and just go. To just sit here . Using my desk.

I forgot about the egg hunts. We did that for some years. It was such fun. I am glad you made it through another year and can spend time at home.

@kaylachan Any day that you can sit at your desk is a good day. It is a good use for your wheelchair. Can you spin around in it?

I love fish and chips. and always order them if we eat in a restaurant. I also love the fun and excitement of St. Paddy's Day. We sometimes went to parades but it is too dangerous to go to crowded places now.

@RebeccasFarm We still go places but I would rather stay at home. When I am out, I always look at people and wonder if they are dangerous.

Yes, I celebrate Easter. Growing up, my siblings and I would dye the eggs the day before Easter, then Mom and Dad would fill Easter baskets after we went to bed and hide them around the house. There were never toys in our baskets, but lots of chocolate and jellybeans amid the green grass. When my children were little, I did the same thing. No toys. Dinner growing up was usually ham. No, I didn't like ham. I didn't make it for my family. I'm not sure what I made for Easter, probably a pot roast. For the past 24 years at least, I've made leg of lamb for Easter. I introduced it to my adult children, and they love it. Now they demand it when they come for dinner at Easter. I don't do Easter baskets anymore, but I do dye eggs. Which reminds me. I need to buy dye.

I am not that fond of ham either. My husband said we needed ham for Easter, so I cooked it. Usually, we had pineapple, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes/squash, and pies or cake for dessert.

@just4him I decided on sides each time according to what was on sale at the store or what my mood was. My family liked most of the sides.

It's spring and Holi the festival of colours is on the 25th of March. People spray colour on each other and eat lot of sweets and delicacies.

That sounds like a lot of fun. Is Holi a religious celebration or to welcome spring? I hope the color washes off.

I don´t much celebrate any holiday now. But when there are holidays in spring and summer, barbecues are part of our life.

Barbecue sounds great. I can taste it already. We don't barbecue much until the weather improves because some of our holidays are in the winter and Easter is in the cold early spring. The Fourth of July is a great time for barbecuing.

We celebrate Easter and for the Easter lunch we have some traditional food we eat. I always prepare a savory pie called "Torta Pasqualina" (Easter Pie), it is a savory pie filled with ricotta, Parmesan, spinach and sliced boiled eggs. To follow is usually lamb.

@JudyEv Yes, it is. When you have kids around, you have to put on some celebration to keep them happy and make memories. It is different when you are just a couple or live alone.

As a kid we would go over to my grandparents for a family meal. They would buy my brother and I a dark chocolate Easter egg filled with coconut, like a huge mounds bar, Since being married to Mike, we go over to his Mom's after church for a family dinner. She has ham and all the fixings.

The chocolate eggs sound delightful. They must be fun to eat. Going to someone's house to eat that feast would be nice. I used to cook at my oldest son's house on holidays. Whoever showed up got dinner.

I dyed eggs as a kid and my kids did it too. It is good to have some traditions to remember and celebrate. Eggs are a symbol of new life and renewal. Baby animals mean life goes on.

We usually go to my brother's house. Our attempt to keep the family together. Same for Thanksgiving. Our groups have been smaller this year. We will have ham, for sure. Maybe some Brussel sprouts. He is a pastor and will host an egg hunt on Saturday.

As a child we had ham because that's what my grandmother would make. As an adult. . . I honestly don't even remember. Maybe ham some years and like london broil on others. For awhile we would always be in Mexico for spring break so the family would have Mexican food at whatever restaurant we chose that night. In the past few years the family hasn't done anything for Easter.

There is no rule that you have to eat ham. London broil sounds good and Mexican food can be delicious. I have not done anything for Easter lately either. Every year, I want to dye eggs and it seldom happens.
