I got my bookwork to the accountant finally

And I'm hoping we get our refund this next week. I took my van in to get it checked out since I drove to Detroit a lot last year and plan on going more often this spring. My van needed front brakes and a wheel bearing on a rear tire. That cost about nine hundred dollars. I paid a portion and when I get my tax money I'll have to pay the remainder. I've been going to Detroit to help my sister, M, get ready to move back home because she has the early stages of Alzheimer's. I shared a bit about this last summer or so. She's been in Detroit since she went there for college. We planned on my brother taking a closed trailer that he owns down to get all her things and move into a condo he purchased for her here. But last fall he tore a muscle in his rotator cuff area and is waiting to begin physical therapy. (He had surgery a week and a half ago). He and a sister that lives near me, the one I was doing jigsaw puzzles with, worked on going thru things stored in her basement while I went thru papers upstairs. I kept my sister, M, busy so they could work unhindered. My Detroit sister doesn't like to throw much away. But they got a lot done and loaded up my van. That was last week. My sister, T, that puzzles with me wants to try going to Detroit weekly if the weather isn't bad. We're hoping we can throw out the junk and store the rest until we can finally move her. We're also hoping our kids can help with the move. [I'm the oldest is six kids all born within ten years. My sister in Detroit and my name both start with M. My brother who lives north of town and my sister that lives near me, their names begin with T. I have another brother that lives in Arizona and has been there since the early eighties. He's a year older than the brother that went with us (T), but his name begins with a C. And I have another sister older than, C, that lives in Ohio and her name begins with a K. So, from oldest to youngest it's me-M here in Michigan, then M, my Detroit sister, then K, my Ohio sister, then C, my Arizona brother, {his name sounds like a k},then T, my brother North of town, and T, my sister that lives near me]. I'm sure that's something you all were curious about.

We are sorry she got that illness too. Unfortunately it runs in our family. But only one uncle has Alzheimer's on my dad's side and my mom had dementia along with several of her sister's. No one else in our generation has it other than my sister.

@grenery8 yes and she never got married or had any kids, so it's a good thing there are a few of us still in the same area.

Yes we do. And it helps that at least a few started in the area. I was gone from 1978-1986. But I was able to help take turns when my mom got dementia.

@just4him so am I. That way it wasn't just left to once of us. We all took turns spending time with her.

I'm not able to help as much as the other family members. I'm not supposed to lift anything to heavy and currently I'm having a hard time walking. I'm expecting the later to improve over time. At least I can keep M busy upstairs while my sister T goes they things downstairs. The stuff in the basement hasn't been gone through in five years or more.

I'm hoping the Alzheimer's/dementia won't progress faster with the move. But her being here will allow us to check in on her where we can't currently.

It's great that your sister has so much help available at this time. I'm sure it's not particularly easy for any of you.

That's true. But T and I are both retired as well as M in Detroit and my brother in the area is semi-retired so that helps. If we can bring back a large portion of her good stuff in the basement and maybe some of what's upstairs then hopefully the nephews can help with the furniture.

Oh, I hope your sister does well my grandma suffers from dementia, and my uncle has alzheimer's its hard to help them and watch them get frustrated and stuff about how they used to be able to do things and remember things but cant any more!

I don't see her getting frustrated too much when we're there although she was having cataract surgery the day after we were there and was confused about the pre and post op tasks. She read the paperwork over and over again.

I am sorry to hear that your sister has the early signs of that horrid disease. We are all lucky that they can diagnose it early now. That's a lot of kids in just ten years time.
