I watched Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio. It has Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Gregory Mann, Burn Gorman, Ron Perlman, John Turturro, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, Tim Blake Nelson, Christoph Waltz, Tom Kenny, Alfie Tempest, and Anthea Greco in it. Big Warning: there is a little bit of violence. Spoiler Below. This version is more like the book (by Carlo Collodi). There are references to Nazism. Even Mussolini is in the movie. Pinocchio goes to military school instead of paradise island. He also has immorality so he dies several times. He gets swallowed by a sea creature with Geppetto. He dies the last time and becomes moral. He doesn't become a real boy. I really liked this version.

I really don't remember the original story of Pinocchio. Have a great day.
