How To Write A Motivational Letter?

I know this should probably be a given, but how exactly do you write a motivational letter? I just got a text from Eli's teacher asking the parents to write a motivational letter for the student - in regards to their tests they are doing. Every Tuesday of April they have a big test they are taking (2 more left, I think). She says that she says everything she can think of to motivate them, gives them snacks, etc... but it's going in one ear and out the other lol. So she asked us to write a letter, or have someone close to them write one...and she'd print them out and share them with them and/or the class. I have never really had to write one though, so not really sure what to say! What would you say?

I would write about what a bright future they (Eli) have in front of them, how the possibilities are endless, and that if they try their hardest, unbelievable things can happen if they just stick with it. That whatever the outcome, you will always be proud (of Eli).

That's what we always tell him. Not sure if he listens to us though! Maybe if he sees it on paper though it will hit differently

You should put yourself in your son's head and imagine what could motivate him. The happiness to achieve a goal, the perspective of the future possibilities, but also the difficulties to go to school and go through the books and lesson to be successful during the tests.

@MommyOfEli2013 This is what I thought, well why not to tell exactly this, what motivates your son is knowing that he will get game time.

The thing with that though, I don't know what would motivate him. He says he hates school. What might motivate him is that if he does his best he'll get game time lol

I'd start by praising the achievements and end with words of encouragement... I suppose. Something like "No matter how you'll do, I will always love you. But I know you can do great, so roll up your sleeves and prepare!" Okay, maybe you can find much better inspirational quotes on the net.

@MommyOfEli2013 Yeah, I thought so. I was just desperate for a word that could rhyme or sound alike and English isn't my first language.

Well this will be just before they take the test, so don't know about preparing - but the rest sounds perfect.

You should let Eli know the letter is from you with his name on it and in it. Let him know what his strengths are, and you know he can do the test.

@MommyOfEli2013 It doesn't matter what the test is about. Just encouraging him will be motivation enough.

Yeah we will do that of course.... well the trouble is I don't even know what subject the test is on!

Of course, that's a given. But not sure what to say beyond that.

The feeling of accomplishment when you achieve a good grade on a test, advancing through school as one of the top people in your class is an honor....I hope you get some good suggestions.

Just think of your son and how you feel about what's he'd accomplished. How proud you are of what he's done. Be positive and try not to preasure him. Make sure he understands, no matter what happens, you'll still love him. That his actions won't change that. Keep it light, positive and encouraging.

Well every day when I drop him off I always tell him to have a good day and do the best he can. And we always tell him we love him no matter what. We may not always like his actions/behavior but we always love him.

I was never great at letter writing of any kind. So was glad when the Internet came along to help. Perhaps this can give you an idea.

That's interesting, I'd put myself in the students head as if I was to get 1 of them letters & go from there.

That's a good idea, although I don't know the brain of a 10 year old boy lol.
