What is the point of cheating at Wordle?

I belong to a WhatsApp group of four. We do the New York Times wordle puzzle each day and share our results on WhatsApp. Whoever solves it in the least number of turns gets smirking rights for the day. Vin and I have an acquaintance who also puts her results up on Facebook. She regularly solves it in two moves and only very occasionally takes more than two. At first, we thought she was very clever but solving it in two shots happens too often for it to be random. Wordle isn’t easy to do. Consistently taking two shots is a bit suspicious. So I googled ‘cheating at Wordle’ and it turns out that you can. I don’t understand why people would do this. Even if everyone else thinks you’re super-clever, you know in your heart of hearts that you’re not ‘playing the game’, as it were. I don’t have a photo of wordle so it’s kangaroos again.

@judyev I solved it on the first go once, the word was viola. I smirked all day but had no-one to boast to. Hasn’t happened since.

Occasionally one of us will do it in two or three but the lady I'm talking about does it in two nearly every day. Something's not right somewhere. I'll bet getting it in one was a very nice surprise. lol

@JudyEv And in the back of their mind, a cheater knows they're being dishonest!

You are right Wordle is not easy, if someone ALWAYS solves in two moves, this means the person is cheating. It is so childish, to cheat only to brag that you solved in two moves? I love the roos.

@JudyEv I have the some people only take pleasure in bragging, not in solving puzzles.

Cheating on a Wordles puzzle is ridiculous Just to gloat, about how great one's skills are! Thus, the game is no longer any fun, if I manipulate to always win:( Those roos are adorable, I never get tire of their pictures:)

If it were me, I can't imagine I'd get any sort of satisfaction from cheating. I'm glad you like the roos.

@kobesbuddy It is indeed but cheating just to win can't be very satisfying really.

@JudyEv The challenge of trying to figure out the puzzle, that's where the fun comes in! Winning honestly, is very rewarding:)

Wordle is not easy. There are people who would do anything to be in the spotlight and not be anything less than a winner. Why cheat? I often wonder. These games are for fun and learning. Being a winner should not be the motivation.

I agree. What's the point in doing it in two if you're using outside means?

It's no fun when you cheat. I only solve crossword puzzles. I guess it's no cheating in solving it unless I challenge myself not to use the search engine.

I might try to get help in some way if I'm doing crosswords but I wouldn't put it on FB saying I did it all by myself.

Some people cheat at everything. No reason for it. My fave is on Words With Friends where people write obscure words nobody ever heard of. You know they got them from a Book or cheat sheet. They think they are Soo clever. Love it when they pull that Rick and I still best them!

One of our good friends is VERY competitive. He doesn't exactly cheat but pushes the rules and boundaries as far as he can. I can get really competitive playing against such people. You just want to take them down a peg.

@snowy22315 I meant to say 'he doesn't actually cheat', not 'he does actually cheat' but perhaps you guessed what I meant.

Sometimes people do that to cover up some kind of insecurity. They feel out of control, and don't want to show they have to struggle. So they cheet.

I don’t know how you can cheat at Wordle, unless someone has told you the word in advance. I do Wordle daily too, and have got it in one on one occasion. That was just luck of course. I used to start with the same three words to flush out the vowels. I usually find it after 4 or 5 guesses, and occasionally don’t get it at all. That’s usually because it’s an obscure word, or one that has too many options to complete and I pick the wrong ones. I now do the ‘harder’ one where you have to use the correctly guessed letters as you move on. I also do Quordle, which is four words, and sometimes Octordle, which I really have to be ‘in the mood’ for.

I've never played wordle, and haven't joined the craze that apparently has now swept the entire planet. Even though I have never played it, I agree with you that it would be very suspicious that someone could consistently solve it in 2 tries.

You have to guess a 5-letter word and you have six opportunities. So you type in a word in the boxes. If you have a correct letter in the right place, the box goes green. If the box is orange, it means that letter is in the word but you've put it in the wrong spot. So then you try again with different letters or the ones you know are part of the word. It's quite good fun.

cute kangaroos. Yeah I don't get why they would cheat. Although I did cheat a little bit today on Strands another New York Times word game. But I don't post my results.

I think it's when you post your results saying they're your own when they aren't, then that's not very good.

You know when you accomplish something really good and you think to yourself, WOW, nice job. And then you’re smiling all day because you’re kinda proud of yourself and you don’t even need to tell people why. You’re living off your own positive energy. She might not have that. So she needs to get it from the outside. Even if it means cheating, unfortunately.

You could be right. It's probably a good enough reason - in her eyes, anyway.
