Right Before Our Eyes

This past Easter, my grandkids attended several celebrations and Easter egg hunts. The one at my 2nd daughters house, she had two egg hunts going-one for the older kids and one for the younger kids. Of course, the older kids' hunt was more challenging. For the little ones, there were some eggs that were slightly hid and some that were hid right out in the open ( a contradictory statement). Pictured are two of the eggs that were in the open. The little ones were scurrying around grabbing eggs hidden in the grass, under chairs, beside trees, and passing right by these two in the open. Of course, we were all laughing because they were so cute. This picture and event got me to thinking. How many times do we run around, chasing the things that we think will bring happiness? How much time do we spend wearing ourselves out trying to win the love and approval of others? How much time do we spend complaining about our circumstances? How many times have we missed the blessings that are right in front of us because we are chasing other things? How many times have we failed to be thankful for what we do have because we are focusing on what we don't have? I have been guilty of missing out on blessings that were right before my eyes because I was so focused inward instead of upward. I try to, daily, give God thanks for my blessings. The more we are thankful, the more we see the good things that are right in front of us, and the more our mental and emotional health improves. Psalm 107:1: "Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!" Psalm 7:17: "I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High." 1 Thessalonians 5:18: "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" Philippians 4:6: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." Colossians 3:15: "And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful."

That is very true that we tend to forget the wonderful things that are created by God and dwell over the darkness of our world.

I'll be the first to admit, growing up one of my favorite memories (next to the fireworks) were the easter egg hunts we did in my sister's back yard. It's nice to look back on those. This post reminded me of that, and how time has passed. It's fun watching it through the eyes of the youth.

To many people want happiness and right before them is their family. The happiness is doing things with your family members.
