Bees Are Driving Me Crazy

Happy Wednesday Everyone! earlier this morning it was raining and now the sun looks like it's trying to peek out from behind the clouds. Temperatures are warm so it's a short sleeve shirt kind of day. I tried to sit outside yesterday afternoon but the bees are driving me crazy. I don't have any flowers or plants so I am perplexed as to why they are hovering around my deck. Big fat bees and small little yellowjackets (at least that's why they look like). I'm not allergic to bees but getting stung isn't something I want to experience. So, my time outside didn't last very long. I'm looking for some sort of solution to deter the bees so I can enjoy my deck. Anyone have any ideas?

Bees only sting if you threaten them but perhaps there is something that smells good to them on your porch? I've been using a homemade spray of a mixture of water, vinegar and peppermint oil which they don't much care for plus it'll keep wasps away as well. I wish I had bees here but I think a lot of my neighbors use insecticides from Juarez which kills them which makes me so sad given the fact that bees are endangered.

Is it possible they've created a hive under your porch?

Try spraying it at night, bees are inactive after dark

I don't want to kill them, I just want them to find somewhere else to buzz I'll try a mixture like you and hopefully it will deter them. I can't think of anything around my deck that would entice them

We have wasps that always fly around, I do not really fear bees, but I fear the wasps.

I wouldn't want to get strung by a wasp.

@Marilynda1225 They are aggressive, the bees do not attack if they do not feel to be in danger.

Is there a source of moisture around your deck. I feel like that would be something all the insects you mentioned would be interested in. Perhaps in addition to spraying the repellent blend @rebelann suggested, you might put a water source away from your deck and give them a new destination. Also, do your grooming products, like shampoo and lotions, smell good? You could be attracting them.

That's a great idea @gardengerty, I keep water bowls in an area away from my mobile home and so far I don't have problems with bees, on the other hand those wasps love water and I've had to really get vicious with them, I've been spraying their nest with that same mixture but I add soap because that kills the queen and then her offspring fly off

No idea. If you can figure out what they like that would help

I am afraid of bees. If I get bee sting, my skin will be in trouble.

I'm not allergic to a bee sting but they do hurt . I'm afraid that the dog is going to get stung since she loves to be outside

I just did a search and found the pop bottle remedy. Cut a soda bottle in half and fill it up halfway with sweet soda or fruit juice. The bees will be attracted to the soda, fly into the trap and drown. I have seen this in the drive thru lane near the Tim Hortons, you have to put it in an area away from where you like to sit to draw them to that area. Good luck!

@Ghostlady Of course killing them is a last resort. You can also research online to find ways to attract bees.

We NEED bees..don't kill bees...they help feed us. If they don't pollenate plants, the food will not grow. I had several tomato plants..the plants had gobs of flowers, but never got even ONE tomato..Someone suggested maybe there were no bees. And they were right..I haven't seen not one bee since we moved into this house 18 years ago. We have wasps, and have to spray down the nests...but they just come back. Bees are detrimental to our survival..youtube has videos on them and how to deal with them and not kill them.

Maybe put a dish of water in a corner of the deck or on the ground below? Maybe they're looking for a drink. We had so many bees round our birdbath one day the birds couldn't get a look-in.

I hope rebelann's suggestion helps. The water source sounds like a good way to keep them occupied as well. Have a good day.

I am afraid of bees too, but I ignore them and they ignore me too. This works for me.

Are they fat black 1's? cause they are all over my yard too & I really don't NEED to get stung with my health, I'm thinking maybe some citronella that has a strong smell they don't like.
