Summoned for jury duty

Do they pay you by the hour or this is just compulsory social service one has to undergo as per the summons of the court

Serving as a jury, I believe, is compulsory among chosen American citizen. I have heard a lot of negative remarks coming from working individuals who have to serve their jury duty and be excuse to they respective works. They often complain that they lose a day's worth of salary. I think the government can work this out by letting them get a paid leave. If you really don't want to fulfill your jury duty here are some options for you: 1. Take some prior legal education, 2. Have a baby, 3. Tell the jury selection body about some racist views or biased opinions, 4. Convert to a religion that forbids its member to swear under oath or serve jury duties. But before doing any of this, think of serving in an important case where your vote could mean keeping a criminal, say a rapist, inside the bars and not in the street ready to claim another victim.
