Do you buy some extra food stuff or cook more ... deliberately? Why you do so?

I would like to admit that whenever I go for buying some food stuff I try to have more than the needed. The same is done while some food is being cooked in the kitchen at home. The very reason for the same is that I think its better to have ample amount of food stuff, quite possible that sombody at home would again feel a bit hungery ;) Another reason for this is if some "sudden guests" are there then I would not be hesitated to invite. How do you people do? Do you think its good or ??

I also like to buy food stuffs more than the required quantity. the reasons you have specified are also apply with me. I think this habit is good, while buying food stuffs. Because the food stuffs can be required in more amount due to any reason, specially if it is a tasty food. I like to buy more food for another reason also, that is, I may also want to get the food more if it is tasty!!!

I am like you, I tend to cook extra because like you say you never know if you get an unexpected guest. You can always have the left overs in case you get hungry again.

I do the same just because I am lazy, lol, I just prefer to cook so I have for 4 days instead of one! I do get sick of it the last day and often throw some, but it's still better than having to cook every day. And it get cheaper to buy large amounts of food.

I tend to buy more than we need, but I think is a reaction to growing up poor. I have learned not to cook more than we need though. When I first got married I didnt know how to cook just for two people. I had always cooked for 5. So I would cook too much. Now, I just cook enough for that meal and 1 extra plate for my hubby's lunch when he goes to work. So now our fridge and pantry stays full longer.

hmmmmmmmmmm..thought I responded to this discussion already but I see I haven't. Anyways....Yes, when meat, cleaning products, pet food, ect. goes on sale I buy alot of it. Especially if I have coupons to go with em. I have a good-sized deep freezer that I can put extra meat and frozen stuff in for later. Also have plenty of cabinets and storage room for extra toliet paper, paper towels, pet food, etc. I seldom buy stuff at reg. prices unless I really need it at the moment. I also cook extra food and freeze it for later use when I don't feel like cooking. My garden produce ends up taking up 3/4 of my freezer come fall time so I save a bundle there on veges and tomato sauce.

I always cook enough for leftovers for the next day. I never make just enough for dinner. It seems pointless to me. I make enough so that if I don't feel like cooking the next day there is enough food for most of the people and everyone else can have sandwiches if they like. Usually once a week we eat all the leftovers that are left. That is how my parents did things so it is how I do things with my kids.

well it is good to know that there are always extra food , meaning you are well off and have extras. my mom do this as she does not to let us eat feeling not stuffed after a meal. but then we try to minimize it as some may just go to waste.

Actually lately I've been cutting back on what we make for dinner- I find this stops us from overeating. The whole family is focussing on portions and healthy eating and when there is tons of food on the table-- we all stuff ourselves. I buy alot of groceries-- Extras in case people pop in- Also alot of fruit and veggies- these make great healthy snacks- I could care if my daughter or myself grabs 3 apples a day-- I just want them to be there when we want them.

My family go for marketing trips once a week and we would usually buy more than needed, especially if there is promotions or offers. So if there are really sudden guests, we are still prepared.

I always buy and cook extra food. What I do is freeze a lot of it for later usage. Usually I will take one day out of the week and cook a lot and freeze then the rest of the week I just have to heat up the food.

I do buy extra, especially if it is on sale. I have always done this, because it seems that when I only make enough for my family, someone always comes over. We have neices and nephews that do not have parents that will help them, or are not able to help them. They know that if they are hungry or if they do not have enough money to buy groceries that I always cook extra. I am glad that I am able to do this for them. If no one shows up, I just put the food in the freezer, that way it is there for me to make them a food basket if they need it.

We often cook enough for several meals at once and freeze the rest for another day when we don't feel much like cooking. If there are leftovers about I do tend to eat them and thats terrible for my waistline, but we always have lots of ingredients in so we are never really stuck for anything to eat.

Well, when i go to purchase some food stuff, i see to it that i purchase more than that is needed(just like you). The reason behind it is, i feel that if we have money then we shouldnt hesitate to eat well. And so i bring many vegetables so that my mother cooks more and makes us healthy. Secondly, i dont know cooking, even if i know i cook to the extent that is needed and not more than that. Because what i feel is that if some guest come, then we can stay without eating or make extra food, but it is not going to happen always. So why to make more than the required and waste it?

There is just my wife and myself left at home and I often wonder if she is buying groceries to feed an army when I go shopping with her. We often have our children and grandchildren come to stay for weekends and then their friends will come to visit them while they are here. My wife will always make sure she has enough food to give them a good meal. She doesn't cook any extra food because she doesn't like waste but if somebody drops by, she will alway have some food that can be prepared quickly.

I don't like to buy extra food stuff, because if there is no guests ,it's a waste of food, and if you don't eat up the food in time, the food will go bad.
