Have you ever driven barefoot?

I never knew just how different an experience driving barefoot could be until I tried it. So used to the cushion of my shoe, I had to relearn how much pressure to apply to the gas and break pedals. At first, I mashed them down as if my foot was made of lead, causing the tires to screech. It didn't take long to get used to it, but it's . . . strange.
Have any of you ever tried driving barefoot?

I suppose it is easy to take them off, but wow, it's scary when they get caught under the pedal. *grin*

Oh, this is too funny, I found a page citing the danger of driving in flipflops! It's right over here: http://www.feetforlife.org/cgi-bin/item.cgi?id=916&d=11&h=24&f=46

I drive barefoot all the time, mostly if I have on sandles, I slip them off while I'm driving. I usually wear some kind of slide on shoes if I'm driving on a long trip, so I can slip them off while I'm driving. Of course I also slip my shoes off practically as I'm walking in the door! My boyfriend comments on this from time to time, if I still have shoes on after being home a while......'wow, can't believe you still have shoes on, ya feel okay?' haha

It sounds like you need a membership to the Society for Barefoot Living. *grin*
Seriously, it's a real group of people. Have a look: http://www.barefooters.org/

Too funny! It never ceases to amaze me, the things that have their own websites. It's almost to the point where you can attach .com to anything random phrase you speak.

I have driven barefoot a few times before. Usually its on long drives where my feet just need to breath. Your right it takes a bit to get used to the pedals without shoes on, but you do get used to it. I like the feel once I am used to it again.

Since posting my initial question, I've gotten a new car and had to learn how much pressure to apply to the gas pedal as it was much more sensitive than its predecessor. I was instantly reminded of this thread and, sure enough, had to try driving without shoes. Oddly enough, I found it to be a much easier experience than before, though perhaps it was because I knew what to expect.

It is nice, to have the soles of your feet massaged while you speed along. It helps to have an older car, which vibrates more than a newer model. *grin*

I always drive barefoot. Whether I'm alone in the car my shoes will either be in the back seat or on the seat next to me. But I love driving barefoot, I feel free! lol. But I do think it is more comfortable to drive barefoot.

Once, my friend, and much like you I did not like it...it hurt my feet and felt very strange.....like you said..not knowing how much pressure to put on the pedals.
It was an uncomfortable experience and one, I did not need but once to learn better......
I love it, when I get to revisit old memeries here, my friend...thank you.

I lived in California for a brief while and most everyone I was friendly with drove barefoot all the time. I guess it has a lot to do with where you live.

yes I drove car with barefoot!
In December 2006, I have gone to one marriage ceremony and there i have had to remove shoes!
When came back from the ceremony the shoes were not there! I searched here and there and found that there are 3/4 persons more...
And then we have come to know, we were enjoying our fist of food and street dogs were taken our shoes for their fist of food!
That day I have drove car barefoot up to 6/7 KM and then found one shop from where buy sleepers and reached at home!!

I prefer it with shoes, too, but I know of a lot of people, in warmer climates, driving barefoot all the time.

That's one thing that I failed to mention: you do seem to have better control over the pedals while barefoot, and you can feel a lot more going on.

I had never driven barefoot either but one day my shoes were killing my feet so I took them off to drive. It was so different. It felt really weird because just like you said you have to relearn how much pressure to apply . I think that it still felt really weird throughout the car ride so I had to put my shoes back on so that I wouldn't get into a wreck.

I made the mistake of taking my shoes (sneakers) off while driving on the freeway, so putting them back on was just as dangerous as leaving them off. It was scary!

I love driving barefoot, but I don't do it often. I guess I'm not much of a shoe person in general- I love to buy them, but hate to wear them! It is hard to adjust to driving barefoot, though- it feels really different!

There are certain shoes that I simply DON'T like driving in, namely flipflops. I find that they get caught in the pedals and that can be very dangerous.

I have driven barefoot and I loved it myself. I feel that I did have better control but here in Ohio I guess it is agianist the law here. I have only did it a few times because I do not want to get a ticket. Now you might be saying hey how would they know well I have a lead foot so if I got a speeding ticket than I would be caught. Take care and happy mylotting to you as well.
