Don't people care anymore about what they look like????

I'm just amazed when I go to walmart or another store and see people wearing sweatshirts/sweatpants and just look unkempt. One time when I went to the grocery store I'd swear this older woman was wearing her pajamas! For shoes, she had on slippers! I've seen people that look like that haven't bathed in days. Hey, I'm certainly not a "dressy" person. My idea of dressing up is a nice pair of jeans and a nice shirt, but I do take care in my appearance. Don't people care anymore about how they look? Is personal pride in appearance becoming a thing of the past? What do you see when you're out and about in town? How do you dress?

I go to the store a lot in a sweats, or my old scrubs I used to have to wear to work and tshirts all time. I want to be comfortable. In my town I would much rather go to the store and see people in their sweats than what I do see. I see extremly overwieght girls wearing tube tops and no bras, stuff hanging out the top or falling out the bottom, and pants that don't even cover what they should. So I guess I don't feel really too bad about what I am wearing versus what I see when I go.

I could care less what I look like when I go out in public. What I look like doesn't matter to me. I don't dress up unless its a formal occasion. Yeah, I'm that lady who hasn't showered for two days and is wearing sweats to walmart. The reason for it? If I have enough time in the day to go to walmart, I go darn quick. I work so much that I don't have any time to go out, let alone look nice while I do it.

I think people should pay more attention to how they dress and what they wear whenever they step out of their house, for me I always try to wear at least a pair of jeans and a T Shirt whenever I head to town, or if its somewhere nearer to home, then I would pull over a Polo T Shir and perhaps a pair of bermudas.

Everyone is different and perhaps they feel that they don't need to dress up just to go and pick up a bit of shopping. I don't always bother too much if I am just going for a quick trip to the shops, ok so sometimes I haven't freshly brushed my hair or I might be wearing my old baggy trousers and sweatshirt, I don't really care so long as I am clean and comfortable. I'm normally found in jeans and t shirts, or my baggies and a top. Nothing wrong with them so far as I can see

Good point! I don't see anything wrong with jeans and t-shirts either? That's what I normally wear.

I believe that you have fads like the grunge look to thank for this. People have lost self-respect in so many ways, is it any wonder that many don't care how they go out looking anymore? I feel that any time there is a loosening of morals in a society everything suffers. For example, look at how rude people are to each other. So many people don't seem to want to do the right thing anymore. It's very sad that we have come to this.

I don't like spending a lot of time minding how I look. As long as I look clean, that's it. Sometimes I even forget to brush my hair. But I make sure it's tied up in a nice ponytail. Jeans and a t-shirt is always my attire. And flip flops. Thank goodness for whoever made them popular. I'd never go out without showering though. It's not only for self respect, it's also respecting the people around you. I'm really conscious about body odor and bad breath. It's really embarrassing. I think wearing sweatpants and sweatshirts in public is okay. But wearing pajamas outside is just really weird. I think the "out of bed" look is in now or something. Sometimes if I only have to go to a store for a quick purchase, I don't dress up. I just wear a t-shirt and comfy draw string pants. If I'm going on a night out then I'd dress up, but a little bit of make up on. But for everyday, I spend less than 5 minutes thinking of how I look. As long as I look normal, that's it. Sometimes I'm one of those people who, at an 11am class, looks like I just got out of bed. But as long as I smell okay, I'm alright. I can always fix my hair later.

I have seen people dress in flannel pajama pants and go to the store. Their hair is a mess. Some even smell like they haven't taken a bath in a month. Many times I see people in wrinkled, soiled clothing. The standards of people are really not what they once were.

I don't seen anything wrong with wearing sweats at all. Yes they should still be clean and brush their hair. No I don't agree with wearing pajamas or night clothes out. Now I might do that if I'm not getting out of the car, like taking my neice to the bus stop or something like that, but other wise I'll slip on clothes. Some people though just to go to the store don't really care. Their thought is who is going to see me that matters? Now I will admit to going out without a bra at times but usually that is due to medical problems and it's painful to wear the bra. Of course someone seeing me won't know that is why but I don't think I should have to explain it to everyone. Same can be said for clothes. My weight goes up and down. My clothes might be tight or lose depending but I cannot afford to go out and buy new clothes. I have to deal. I prefer to wear the baggy clothes over the tight but that can look "sloppy" to others. I cannot help that.

I was in our Walmart a few years ago at about 2am and saw a rather large woman in what looked like a housecoat and those pink bedroom slippers...and no I wasn't drinking...:) I think people just don't care how they look in public anymore.

I was just in Orlando and was amazed by the adults and kids that I saw in and around some of the strip mall stores and mom&pop style restaurants that were wearing just plain dirty clothes - I mean food stains and everything. And with the weather there, there is a lot of bare flesh that really, really, really should be covered up...

So people dress the way they feel lime and they don't fell ashame at all and I keep wondering if they are sane. When I am going out, I like wearing responsible clothes like wearing my trouser and tulk in with my shoes and sometimes wear simple dress with my palms.

Yeah, I used to wear some boy clothes to play in when I was a kid. My mom let me do it. To this day I tend to take my husband's t-shirts and I even bought myself a nice pair of men's athletic pants at Wal-mart for $7.00. I love them and they look nice to go out in when I want to be comfortable. I always am clean when I go out. I'm mostly found in khaki pants and a t-shirt, which is what I wear to work and when I get off work I am filthy because I work in the garden center at Wal-mart. I can only imagine what people think when they see my grungy khaki's after a rough day at work in the dirt, but Wal-mart's dress code makes me wear Khaki's in the garden center. Here's what I look like: My shirt has mulch all over it, I'm wet almost to my knees by dirty water, the tops of my thighs are filthy from lifting bags of dirt, mulch and block all day. Now, when I'm shopping after work, I get stared at. Little do they know that when I came to work, those pants were spotless. Now, if someone thinks me to be insane for being out shopping in my filthy clothes, they are the ones who are nuts because they have no idea the circumstances that lead to me appearing that way. Besides, I'm not going to go home and change to shop in the store where I work. LOL But sometimes, there are reasons why someone may be somewhere in filthy clothes. Mine being that I work at the store in the garden center, but I am definitely a clean person who showers daily and has self-respect. I can dress up very nice at times and at other times it's just feasible to steal a piece of clothing off of my husband.

So you're saying that people that don't dress up to go to Walmart or go grocery shopping are mentally unbalanced because they choose to be comfortable instead of dressing up in the off chance they will run into you? I wear men's over-sized t-shirts year round. I also wear men's sweats and a man's parka in the winter. I choose to dress like that because it's comfortable. My physical comfort is more important to me than your opinion of how you think I should look for your comfort. I am not the least ashamed of how I dress. I just got my daughter back from a year in fostercare and have been de-programming her from the brainwashing that the foster parents did to her - they had her convinced that she should never wear what she wants but should dress to suit how others think she should look. She likes wearing boys jeans & t-shirts (she's only 7) but the fosterparents refused to let her think for herself and had gotten rid of all of the boys jeans and t-shirts she had and made sure she only had girls clothes. She had girls clothes here too but preferred to play in the jeans & shirts I'd bought for her. My daughter sobbed her heart out when she told me about them getting rid of the clothes I'd given her. It took me 2 weeks to convince her it was OK to wear whatever she wanted, that nobody would make fun of her for wearing boys jeans and a t-shirt. I certainly hope you you never have to worry about a child's self esteem, it's devestating to watch them be so depressed.

Several months ago I broke my ankle and had to have a fiberglass cast put on my leg. They split the pantleg of my jeans up to my knee but when I got home it wasn't high enough I could get them off so I had to split them even more. By the time I was done, it was almost 5 inches above my knee. I didn't want to have to split every pair of jeans I had so I started wearing sweatpants everywhere because they stretched over my cast. I wasn't crazy about it and it was embarrassing at times, but it beat having a draft blowing up my pantsleg in the middle of winter. I got over the discomfort and embarrassment. Now I'm to the point that I really don't care what people think about me when I go out because I can't stop them from thinking whatever they want anyway. I spent enough of my childhood being embarrassed because my mother made most of my clothes instead of buying them like other parents did for my classmates.

When I was in my 20's, I wouldn't even go to the mailbox without my makeup on. But I have relaxed a little as I have aged some, children seem to have that affect on you. I wear cut off and tee's around the house, but I still try to put my best face forward when I venture out.

i always dress fitted to any places i go, which means if i go to grocery stores i do dress up fitted for that and not on my house dress..but maybe those people you have seen are in a hurry to go that they think they dont need to..

I see alot of sweatpants because they're comfy and okay to wear if they're not all dirty or tore up. What I'm surprised at is I see alot of pajama pants ,by young and old ,wearing in the stores. Some look like they rolled out of bed and didn't even brush their hair! I have nascar jammy pants but would never dream or be comfortable wearing them outside of the house.

Maybe I am not a beaty, but I do care what i look like in other people's eyes. I think it's a way to show respect to other guys and also let me be more self-confident. If i am out, T-shirt and jeans is my priority. But if a more formal occasion such as going to a concert or an important interview, I will buy some expensive clothes.

Well, it's not a thing of the past to wear your best before going out of the house. It's just that many people are thinking about so many things that they hardly have time to take care of themselves...

OH geeze, I always wear jeans and a shirt out. I never wear sweat pants or anything out in public or school, but that is how my dad taught me, so I just wear jeans and if I dont I feel weird and people would look at me like, [ eww she can't dress ], but I work at a grocery store, and I honestly can't believe people actually leave the house looking like they do. Half the people smell, look nasty, and wear either little nasty clothes, or baggy nasty clothes. I dont think people care what they look but, but half these people should.

For me, i always see to it that i am clean and that i go out with presentable look. I had this classmate before, he used to go to school wearing his sleeping pyjamas. And it's just like it's nothing for him. Maybe, they really don't care what other people will say about them. maybe they have this "i don't care" attitude.
