I agree with that Sean Paul is great but what happened to all of the old reggae that came before him. If you could remember the older ones and hear Sean paul sing, They all sound almost the same. But Sean Paul is the new style of Reggae.

your right Shaba was the first artist to get an international award {the Grammy}and then Beenie man and these are dancehall artist in fact Beenie man has song with more international artist than anyone both English,Spanish, and Indian Reggae is another story not as popular as dancehall these days but it still lives

he's a legend, in the UK dancehall music isn't majorly popular - unfortunately. But sean paul has managed to make this barrier and he is very sucessful here. I'm still hoping he will open the gateway for the other fabulous artists that are out there and vybz and lady saw o and beenie but he is quite well known here.

yes Sean Paul is a great to listen too and it is about time that the reggae scene had a new infusion so to speak.. but i think Bob Marley is more synonymous with putting Jamaica on the map.....rock on Buffalo Soldier...

I totally disagree with the idea of Sean Paul being the greatest reggae artist and I would not atribute his popularity totally to his talent. In these days of the Internet and other electronic Medea almost anybody with a bit of talent and a bit of money behind them can become an internationally recognized artist. The are literally pumping them out now like products off a production line. have you seen the x factor or pop idol. My intention is not to take away from Sean's hard work because I know that he has been working in the tranches for a long long time. Yes he has an international appeal but in my book being the greatest reggae artist requires more the being popular.

Bob Marley is the all-time, undisputed greatest reggae artist ever. If you are looking for greatness among the younger generation, check the works of guys like Anthony B, Buju Banton and Garnet Silk. And do not confuse the work of a reggae artist with the work of a dance-hall or pop singer.
