Have you ever killed or euthanized a pet?

It could have been an accident, on purpose, by ignorance or other cause, like euthanasia. How has it made you feel? I've had been in this position twice and it has been the worst experience of my life. One time I had to kill a kitty that one of dogs attacked, I heard the conmotion in my backyard and went to see what had happened, I saw my dog bitting and shaking a kitty. I scolded him and he let it go, I thought that the dog had killed it but when I came close to get it so I could bury it, the poor kitty was still agonizing, he was all mangled up and I felt that it was too cruel to let it suffer anymore, so I killed it. Do you think I did wrong? Should I've waited for him to die? Have you ever been in a similar situation?

Yes! I'm a Farmer and I've shot and killed a Black Bear by my house, Have killed Cattle for food, Rabbits that were eating my Garden, Dogs that were chasing my Geese, Ground hogs that were making Holes in my Fields.....Yes and several Pets that were old and crippled. I never taken a Life Lightly. Life is Sacred! Even a Tiny Kitten deserves to live, but when you have 29 in your barn? I believe These lives were given to love and Cherish, but theres a Limit. I know it sounds Crass, but its hard to explain. The most difficult was my old dog who had been my friend for 13 years. He was deaf and could hardly walk. We went on a Last Hunting Trip together and I came back alone. Life on the Farm is so different from Life in the City!

My dad had to kill my dog some years ago because my dog was really sick. Because he was old, there was nothing much we could do to make him feel better so my dad shot my dog in the head to at least, not to let him feel any pain. I cried when I watched my dad shoot my dog... I don't think it's wrong because rather than to let my dog suffer, my dad just chose to end any pain that bothers my dog. It would just make everyone feel worse to wait for my dog to die because he really couldn't take it anymore.. =(

I know what you mean, my dad has always been the one to do this kind of things... I just never had to do it myself. I wish I don't have to do it again but I'm still young and I like pets, so I know I will always have at least one animal living with me and it's probable that I could have to do it again in the coming years.
