Birth Weight

For some reason tonight I decided to pull out my baby book to see what my birth weight was. When I looked I got a big surprise, my mother had written down I weighed 6 pounds 18 ounces. Anyone else see a problem with this? So I called my Mom to ask her what I had weighed, she tells me either 7 pound 6 ounces or 7 pounds 7 ounces. When I said my baby book said 6 pounds 18 ounces she said "than I guess that is what you weighed, I really don't understand why you called if you already knew the answer". So as respectful as possible I tried to explain that I couldn't have possible weight that since there are only 16 ounces in a pound. She says she has no idea than how much my birth weight was, it wasn't that important to remember. My mother does not seem to have a problem with her memory on anything else as far as I can tell. I remember all 6 of my children's birth weight and the exact time they were born, am I the only one? Do you feel it is important?

I also had a Tyler and still even 16 years after his passing I remember everything also. I am glad you will be able to find out more information soon. I didn't know they were changing the laws, I'm sure my sister will be happy too.

I remember, too. I even know my siblings weights, although I don't know what time they were born. I also know most of my neices and nephews weights. It's just something that has stuck, because a lot of them were quite small. That is pretty funny, 18 ounces! It sounds like something my mom would say, too. Apparently, we had a cat that lived to be about 1247 years old. I think she may have been with Noah on the Ark or something. The story seem sto grow over the years!

You are better than me.. I don't know about my nieces and nephew's birth weight. Since my sister was placed for adoption before I was born, I don't know her's either but neither does my mom lol. Funny about the cat, maybe she was trying to say it in cat years instead of human? But still that would be a VERY old cat lol.

SIX KIDS!!!! Sorry, just a bit of shock here.... No, I think you are both right. Some people like facts, statistics and information, other just go tripping along their merry way and so long as the baby is healthy, happy and clean its fine. You didn't say if you were an only child, that might be a bit more odd, but that's just the way some people are. Consider it 7 lbs 2 oz and you'll probably be as close as you can ever get. Be glad you have something like that baby book to look back on, all I have is my birth certificate & it doesn't list my wieght, just my name, place of birth and time.

Yep, 6 kids ranging in age from alomst 19 down to 2 years. Life has never been dull lol. I do have a sister that was placed for adoption before I was born, my mom remembers everything about her but maybe that is because that was the only thing she had to hold onto with her. I did consider myself lucky until I really looked through the book, now I am not so sure what is real lol.

I remember birth weights, my children were 7 lbs, 7 oz, 6 lbs, 9 oz, and 6 lbs, 12 oz. The funny thing is, I also remember birth weights of other children, my little sister is 15 years younger than me and I remember her weight, she was 4 lbs, 15 oz. Now I wish I could remember birthdays.

I only have 3 children but yes i can remember their weight and exact time they were born even their lenghts. I do think that it has some importance to it, it seems to be a topic of discussions between friends or co workers or just in casual conversation about children. And i also think that it is important to myself that each of them were different and i can tell anyone the difference. My mother would probually say the same as your s though she wouldnt see why it would have to be something that she should remember for anyreason. maybe since she wrote 6 lbs 18 oz you were 7 lbs and 3 oz

I have noticed that with each child I had someone always asks "how much did your other children weigh?". I guess I'll have to make a trip to my birth state and get a certificate to find out for sure. Hopefully they put the weigh and other stats on them back then.

I only have one child and she is only two months so I remember that stuff pretty good. About the 18 ounces thing.. that's pretty funny. Maybe the doctor told it to her and she thought she heard 18 lol

I remember all this as well as it was the most important time of my life and is something that I will always treasure , it was the day each of my children was brough into the world and the start for a new life . To me there is nothing more important in life then the life of a new child born into the world . I am not sure how much I weighed but I believe my mother knows how much I weighed , I would be kind of hurt if I realized it was not as important to my mother .

I was always curious about my birth weight because I knew I was a big baby. I was 4.2 kgs (I was born in Greece and they had weight in kilos) and this converts to about 9 pounds 4 ounces. However, my mum did not have a baby book recording this or even a photo of me taken at the hospital. She doesn't even remember what time exactly I was born. I guess they weren't considered important things in those days in Greece (late 60's).

Some people remember the little things and others don't. My mom told me I was about 7 pounds at birth. I don't have any children but I do remember dates and times of things that are important to me.

I would not be concerned. A few years ago, I got tinted contacts, my eyes went from green to blue. I asked my mother what she thought about them...she asked why I paid extra - all of her kids have blue eyes. I am the only one with green eyes. Oh well....she still loves me..or at least my blue eyed twin.

Hi dragnokiefly,it is not so important to remember each numbers in the life ,there are so many more numbers worth remembering ,such as your parents birthday ,and the date for your wedding anniversary .I do not mean to offend you .You are a great mother ,and your children will be proud of you .I do not know what is my baby weight ,because the health condition was very poor in my county when i was born it will be a pity forever .Fortunately ,my mother gave me a good health ,I have to thank her .

Each and every person is different from one another. So your mother is also different from you in certain aspects. For you the weight, time of birth of your babies is of utmost importance. For your mother may be some other details regarding you is of utmost importance. These things are not the parameters to judge your mothers love for you. You should try to understand her more closely.

I have two kids. one daughter & one son. If i have to write about the birth weight of my kids then i can't remember, i have to check their hospital cards. But one thing i'm particular about is their vaccination, if not their birth weight.

The average birth weight for a baby is at or around 7lbs. I was 7 lbs. and a few ounces when I was born.

I think that it is ojkay i mean your kids probally are not that old as youand your mom when parents deal with so much in their life with you and you know hey they have problems stress and grankids and so forth meadicallyi think the memory starts slipping and all i mean i know my kids but they are 2 and 1 and my mom tends to get her kids mixed up at times and all i mean they are getting older and it is hard to remember she was a good mom and i m sure still am .

My oldest is almost 19 so they aren't all very young. I never meant to imply my mom is a bad mother in any way shape or form. I just found it strange she would not remember something I find very important. and I wanted to know if I was the only one that found that information important.

I remember what they weighed, but I do have a hard time remembering what time they were born. I was so doped up.. I could barely remember my own name. (: I actually had to look at the birth certificate to make sure I had the right time. (:

Maybe she wrote it while still really tired and the handwriting was sloppy? I suppose it could be 13 or 15 ounces or maybe even 1.8 ounces, some places get really specific about the weight. I think it's important to remember these things but I have also met many people that don't. They have no explaination for not remembering but I don't really have an explanation for needing to remember. I just think it's nice information to know. Here's my list...and no I didn't have to look any of it up. I can also list off how long labor lasted and what room numbers they were born in! #1 Friday 12/08/1995 1:22 pm 6 lbs 6 oz 19 in. #2 Monday 07/13/1998 4:06 pm 7lbs 5oz 20 in #3 Tuesday 08/01/2000 10:05 pm 6lbs 8oz 19 in #4 Friday 03/07/2003 1:28pm 8lbs 8oz 19 1/2in #5 Tuesday 04/26/2005 2:11am 8lbs 8oz 21in #6 Monday 11/13/2006 10:18 pm 7lbs 5oz 18in
