Is it okay to post e-mail forwards as a discussion topic?

This should be my 500th post. I will have the ability to cut and paste. Sometimes I receive e-mail forwards from friends and family that are profound, or funny or touching. If I wanted to share an e-mail forward with my myLot friends, would it be okay to post an e-mail forward here? Sometimes, I receive e-mail forwards that are worth talking about. Would that be against myLot guidelines? I don't remember seeing anything about that in the guidelines. Have you?

I don't think there would be any problem with posting e-mails from family and friends. I think the only problem may be if something in the emails was copyright or copied from a book or copyright website.

Thanks for you help. I don't think any of these e-mails have been copyrighted.

I remeber reading in a discussion once that you are allowed to share e-mails that you have gotten as long as you give proper credit to the person who originally wrote what you are sharing. So I guess as long as you are able to trace it back to the person or site in which the e-mail came from you should be able to share it for discussion with everyone on mylot. You might want to send a message to mylot admin to ask them to make sure you have the right answer.

Thanks. I would probably add my thoughts on the e-mail or ask others how they feel about the content. Another option that I thought of was not to copy and paste but just bring up the topic of the e-mail in my own words.

I think it would be okay if you added something to it. For example you could say, "I received this from a friend and wanted to share it with everyone on mylot because I found it very interesting." Then I think it would be okay. I have seen others do it and their discussion has not been deleted.

Be careful, I had a discussion deleted that was from something that was emailed to me and I though it good to talk about. Anyway they claimed it was against something that is guidelines which are usually suggestions and in this case not explained or found. You take your chances posting discussions here. Make it original and hope for the best.

I have thought that I was alone in fuming at the enforcement of the guidelines. Never knowing for sure what was expected. Like some sort of experiment that seeks to watch how we might turn on one another and stick to the unclear methods of earning around here. Good luck navigating this site!!

Thanks for the tip. I was reading up on the guidelines again and I saw some that didn't make sense to me and I wondered how I could go about asking them what their reasoning was. It also didn't occur to me until you mentioned it, that the word guideline does mean suggestion more than it means "rules". If they are "rules" then, maybe they should change that title.

I wouldn't have a clue miamilady but I have seen several or shall I say lots of discussions that have been copied from somewhere else. I think it might be ok !

I don't like discussion where e-mail forwards are posted. Actually I like to post only to discussion which are interesting and fact-based. It helps me respond to that discussion properly.

I think it is okay to forward a message from an email into a Mylot discussion. I have seen alot of members doing that here. I have never done it so I don't know for usre if Mylot deleted their discussion or not. It should be okay if it is a unique email or discussion that nobody else has posted.

The only thing that I remember seeing is that it can't be under copyright and you have to have permission to use it. If I were you, I would contact Mylot and ask them about that.

I saw the part about copyrighted material also. I don't think this stuff is copyrighted. I received a couple good suggestions in the responses to this discussion. As you suggested, I'm going to try to contact mylot.

I think it is against the guide lines. You could start a discussion about the email and if you can find it online somewhere then paste the link to it. I think that is okay to do. Good luck with it.

I know this is going to be stating the obvious, but you might want to begin your My Lot discussion by telling a little something about the person you had received the email from. That way your readers could make a connection between you and them. Also, why not post stuff you get in the emails. Who says it's wrong?

I guess if you give a description and explain why this forward is a discussion I guess it would be okay, I don't think there's anything wrong with it, you might want to check with mylot about that.

No, it is not okay of posting email forwards here in mylot, considering that those email forwards belong to some other person and/or was taken from some other websites or blogs. I feel that most of the email forwards we receive will be taken mostly from websites, etc. SO you should be very careful in posting such discussions and it is not allowed at all.

It's not against the rules as long as you can create a discussion with it. Meaning there is some question for us to ponder. If it's something that really can't be reponded to with more than a couple of sentences, they will delete it.

Hi Miamilady, I am glad you get opinions before you carry it out. I would like to offer my 2 cents worth. No offence intended, eh? May I say that is the least I expect to see in myLot even though some members are doing such. May I suggest you not to abuse the copy and paste feature that comes with 500 posts. I would prefer to see proper discussions instead of just email fowards, which we too might have received in our own personal account. In my opinion, I think it might be more worthy to read the email, summarise them and then post a discussion topic, citing the source of reference. Or course, this is just my personal view. You are free to use your rights :p

i did post a discussion with a forwarded email to me last time and it was not deleted. so i think it still works this time. just mention in your post where and how you got it and perhaps acknowledge the person who sent you the email or the source of it. i think what mylot doesn't approve of are the chain emails/letters being forwarded and passed on to different individuals.

I don't see why not, just make sure you clear yourself by reading the guidelines. Either way that is what I'm planning to do once reaching the magic number 500.
