Pay it forward...have you heard of this concept?

I learned about this about 2 years ago and I realized that I've been doing this in some form or another all my life. The concept of "pay it forward" is that when you recognize a need, fill it if you can personally or find someone who can. One of the groups on eBay where I'm a member did that 2 Christmases ago. It was amazing to know that even with all the evil in this world, there are still people who are kind and generous. So gentle friends, do you "pay it forward?" Is it through joining a group like Big Brothers/Sisters? A Church group? Do you do something on your own?

I am the same way with doing things for others. So many years ago, I was doing this program online where I was able to collect a lot of money that went towards amazon.com gift certificates which I used towards my kids and family for Christmas. Well, after they were taken care of I was able to help 5 familes get there kids gifts for christmas. Then even after Christmas I was still able to help families that needed help. I love to give more than to receive.

Your welcome. That's just who I am. I really don't look at compliments because I do them all the time. I know it makes that person feel good. I also give in other ways, that just popped in my head. To me it's just habit to help others for no reason. I believe if your going to do something for someone, do it because you mean to and not expect something later down the road.

Thank you. You've restored my faith in humanity. :-) I'm reminded of something. Giving doesn't have to be monetary. I work in a hospital and 2 days ago a young lady came in because her father-in-law was being admitted there. I noticed how beautiful her skin was and when I had the opportunity I told her so. You would've have thought that I'd given her a million dollars. The pleasure I noticed she felt from this compliment. Which reminds me of something I read once. A compliment can carry a person for 2 weeks. I'm paraphrasing and that is only part of the quote. But I think you get what I'm trying to say.

I've heard of it before. Great concept! I pay it forward every day by trying to do something nice for somone. I've noticed when I'm nicer to other people then they are nice to others too. If I can help someone out, I will. So I do things on my own. These acts of kindness are part of what makes life more enjoyable for all of us.

There is a discussion here somewhere asking if you smiled when you answered discussions. It was "no" for me until I read your reply. Your reply made me smile. Thank you.

I defintely have heard of this and witnessed very little of it. I too belong in a couple of Ebay groups and was not aware of that. I belong to a couple of groups on Care2 however they seem to have a difficult time of helping enough people. There seem to be so many people that needs help. Would be nice if that was a focus and not a by the way. Nice to meet another that has good in their heart and is willing to share it.

I've purchased meals several time for homeless people while sitting at the waffle house. One instance while I was having lunch. A person came in the waffle house. I could really tell this person was in a serious bind. I got to speaking with him. I evaluated the person, the story. I purchased him a meal, gave him fifty dollars and another person that visits the waffle house regularly of which I realy didn't know other then just idle chatt. He owned a landscaping business, so the guy I gave the $50.00 to I introduced him to the other guy. So this person ended up a full stomach, fifty bucks and a new job. The situation with this guy, he had been working as a home care person taking care of a patient that was terminally ill, well that person passed away and the family ended his job, that put him out on the street without notice. So hopefully, my small part helped this individual. I have another interesting story I could tell

I have never heard of this concept, but it does sound nice. I try to be nice to others, but I can't say that I will go out of my way to help people. I like to stay to myself and I believe that you take responsibility for your own life. I believe that our course of life is planned by God and that He controls the life we have.

I think that in some way, shape or form that we all practice this as it is human nature to do things for other people when things are done for us. And several people if things are done against them will do things against other people. All of the network marketing companies have an element of pay it froward to them. If not they wouldn't survive as it is a matter of you sponsor someone and they sponsor someone else. The benefactor or philanthropist side of the pay if forward concept is best demonstrated in a movie that came out a few years ago that was aptly named Pay It Forward. I think that the job that I went back to in some way is a way of Paying It Forward as it has to do with taking care of and directing people who have gotten off track.

I firmly believe in paying it forward. And sometimes when I do something, and the person says "I don't know how I can ever repay you", I say pay it forward, and they usually do. I think of it as a learning opportunity for those who have never heard of the concept. It restores peoples faith in humanity, and isn't that what most people really need in this day and age?! Kindness without expectation of reward is a very rewarding thing for people. That is truly learning to give straight from the heart.

Pay it forward means that if someone helps you don't repay them, but instead help someone else in need. There was a cute movie called "Pay it Forward" which you can watch with your kids.

I have always believed in the "pay it forward" concept, and have tried to instill the same beliefs in my children. I help out wherever I can, sometimes as an individual, and quite often by volunteer work within various organizations. For the past year or so I have been doing volunteer work with some friends of mine to raise money to donate to hospice, but ever since I was a teen I have done various volunteer work of one kind or another.

I have heard the concept of Pay It Forward. I don't know if I believe in it, as it seems to be the same as karma and wiccan law of three. I am not a true believer in those either. Do unto others is another version of paying it further. I will do good things but not with any intent to pay it forward. I think if you are doing good deeds to pre pay for your future influence it doesn't count. You have to do good because it is what is supposed to be done. You need to be responsible for yourself and be true to yourself. When you are true to yourself, then you truly honor yourself and everyone else. Pay it now and let it go into the world, don't worry about the future or the past.
