My mom say's that Deutoronomy 12:30 is the scripture he was speaking of after a myLot friend suggested Deutoronomy (thanks) and I started reading it and got to verse number 30 and thought that that was it and called my mom and asked her and she said that was it. Deutoronomy 12:30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after they be destroyed from before thee; and thou not inquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. I see it as not being snared into their beliefs when inquiring. How does anyone else see it?

First let me say that I am glad I was able to help! Second, I agree with you (I said so in the other thread too) that it is the getting caught up in the other religion that is the problem; not learning about it.

If you ask about a religion and say "well I am interested in the Islam belief. I really am disappointed with Christianity, and I intend to be a Muslim" is a lot different from saying, "I am interested in the Islam belief, I want to know how it came to spread." A person can learn about a belief and have no intention of joining it. He just might want to know how to be careful, like not eating with his left hand." It is when he intends to join that belief and forsake his own, that is wrong. And perhaps your mother knows that she can be persuaded by fine words and decided not to go.

I really don't think she can easily be persuaded. She just always wants to be right.Iam trying to show her that she's not right this time.

I think maybe this is a warning to not get trapped by others beliefs...I think learning & being educated on another religion isnt necessarily wrong, but getting intrigued & maybe letting it sway your own beliefs will be the problem. =)

lol! Try to tell her you view it more as a warning than a demand. to be careful with other religions so that you do not get caught up in it rather than it telling you not to learn about it =)

Yes, I agree. Not to get caught up in it. But geeze how you gonna talk to anyone if you have no idea where there coming from. Sometimes Christians can be so 'stuffy' and self-righteous. It's about relating to people. (thats just my opinion *smiles*)

Exactly, that's what me and my pastor said, how can we talk to someone if we don't know what their thinking. And she said that we are not supposed to that if we hear about their religion we are supposed to tell them that we don't want to hear it.But,they listened to us.How rude! I sound like Steaphanie Tanner, lol.

Isn't that being a little judgmental. Are we (because we're of the Christian belief) better than they? We don't have the time to chat with them about the beliefs that they may hold dear in there heart, yet we want them to hear all about ours, oh, and convert over to our ways. With that kind of attitude I (if i were of another belief) wouldn't want anything to do with Christianity. If she doesn't want to hear about their beliefs tell her to stay away from them. Because if she tries to talk to them, she's not showing them what a true Christian is. Best she stay away, let someone else talk to them. (not trying to be mean, I'm sure she's a wonderful person, a bit misguided on how to share Christ with others, which of course is our main purpose here.)

Obviously the verse served as a warning. Warning for what? It says "take heed", one may be caught by other beliefs and doctrines before you even knew it. I think in their time (Moses' & joshua's), there was no need to inquire on other religion. If they're so curious to "inquire after their gods, saying, how did these nations serve their gods?", they may left the God's commandments about service and worship and adopt these traditions. For what i know some of these ancient nations' rituals involved human sacrife such as children.

I told her that "take heed" means to beware and that "snared" means trapped or caught. But,she won't listen.
