I had a friend in the school who was born with 6 fingers, but he got the extra one cut as soon as he was born... Do you know someone like this or in a similar situation? Is it right to cut that extra finger? Why? Just because of the appearence? What if he is from a new step in evolution? Are we preventing evolution with our decisions or with technology?

Polydactyly - Six fingers
It depends on if the extra digit was actually usable or would have just gotten in the way. Although evolution is simply random mutations that stick because they work, I don't know if I'd call this a new step in evolution. Most people who are born with extra parts can't use them so it really isn't a step up. On the other hand (no pun intended) I have seen a few whose extra fingers are quite usable and come in handy (pun intended) according to the person who has them, like the guy in the picture below. If they work I say leave them be. Personally I did know one man who had a thumb which was actually two seperate thumbs down to the first knuckle. He had two fingernails but they faced each other and were not able to move independently. It never bothered him and it wasn't much larger than a normal thumb so it wasnt' a problem. There used to be a cat in our neighborhood who had 6 toes on each foot. Perfect well shaped extra toes too. He was a sweety and all the kids played with him.

i dont know anyone with a 6th finger or toe. I agree with cutting it off when theyre born because theyre going to get made fun of their whole life, plus it's usually not a "real" finger or toe its like a little wierd blob thing. And it's not preventing evolution... lol they still have the gene for that, just cuz you cut off the finger, the gene isnt cut out of their DNA!
