Going back to school too early?

Do you think that schools should wait til after Labor Day before sending kids back to school? It does not make sense to start them just before the holiday and then have a few days off before going back to class. I do not like that idea with the interruption of classes like that. They should just wait til after the holiday is over. How do you feel about that? Apparently some kids did not like going back to school early either as they vandalized one of the schools here which forced the high school to close yesterday because of all the broken windows and damage caused inside the school.

Yeah, it might sound like interruption but I think the children enjoy a break every now and then. For those that don't want to take a break until the end of the school year, that might not be good for them and they probably won't like it as much at all.

I think that school should start The day after Labor day and barring any make up days because of weather, school should end in the second week of June.That way the dates are set. And with duel custody of children, the parents can plan their vacations and visitations.

Hi K, I'm sort of back. I have alot of catching up to do. but in answer to your question.....I have always thought it bloody ridiculous to start school before the long weekend. I would purposely keep the boys out of school whenever we had a year like that. It just ruins the end of summer plans that a family may have.

I don't think kids should go back to school so early. First of all,august is too hot for kids to be going to school. It doesnt' make sense to go to school for a week or 2 then have a holiday already

I don't see the problem with them going back to school before Labor Day. School started on the 27th and that gives them a whole week back at a school before having one day off for the holiday. Its not like they are gonna miss a week or something its one freaking day. I think people have just gotten lazy is the problem and don't think education is important. I don't understand why kids spend so much time out of school to be honest. Its like every month they are out of school for one reason or another. And people wonder why the educational system in the US is as crappy as it is.

Growing up we always went back to school after Labor Day. My mother taught in the school district next to mine and they would usually go back in August. We got out a little earlier than they did. We used to get out of school in the middle of June. The next district would get out of school a little later so they had a shorter vacation. I remember my cousins in the south would get out of school in May and would go back in August. I have no idea if they still do that because it was well over a decade since I graduated.

Schools in the southern states tend to start even earlier. They also get out earlier than the schools in the north.

Actually, in my state, school isn't allowed to start until after Labor day. The governor signed this into legislature in order to help the state's tourism. Many businesses that relied on tourism were complaining about declining numbers because kids (and thus families) had to return home (down state) early because of school starting early.

That is just so sad that all this vandalizing is going on. Not that it makes it right but I think you made a good point, I think kids are rebelling for one reason or another causing them to do stuff like this. It's just not good. Absolutely Yes I do agree with you, wait till after the long weekend and then go back to class. That would make too much sense I guess. Take Care my friend.

I find it strange that students go back in the beginning of August instead of September. When I was going to school I almost always went back in September, though I think there were a couple of times school started at the end of August. I think the schools should wait until after Labor Day. It seems silly to me that they (the schools) would want to do it this way now. I just don't understand it.

I think so. My sister just started back to school this week, and she is already getting a day off for Labor Day. Why not just wait? The kids barely get used to being back in school and already have a long weeknd.

Not really..I think the children get restless after too long a break..and I think that too long a time away from school makes it harder to get back into the rythm of things..
I do think however all kids who have trouble studying should take some of the juice we are marketing;)

Yes, I totally agree. It is silly to go to school for 3 days just to have a 3 day weekend. We always did start after Labor Day and we were out on Memorial Day.

Yes I think they are starting them too early and taking away more and more of their summer break every year as well. This year my girls got 2 months and 1 week off for summer break. What happened to a 3-month break? Then many of the schools had to dismiss the kids early due to the heat. Ummm Hello it's summer people what did you expect, snow?, LOL. So yes it's too early and the kids aren't getting a real vacation in my opinion. I think waiting till after labor day, like they use to, would make more sense.

I think its better to finish the holiday to avoid school off. Atleast students are now focused on school than they have to think there are another off from school, why not bother to be serious at school. This is just my opinion, coz why back in college i used to not go to school that early.
