Walmart Discontinues Again...

Discontinuing... - Discontinuing...

Have you ever went to Walmart's and found out that something you wanted or needed had been discontinued? Were you able to find it anywhere else? We have a Walmart Supercenter where I live and I have bought my Cross Stitch threads and supplies there for the last 15 years that I have lived here. I went in the other day to grab some thread and lo and behold the section is gone. The woman in charge of the area said they were discontinuing it in order to make room for more scrapbooking supplies (like 2 aisles of it isn't enough). So now there is no where within 2 hours of me to buy any of the supplies I need so I will have to start buying them online. It is really irritating that they do this. It isn't the first time they've done it but this is the first time it's hit me so hard. Do you have to buy things online even though you'd rather buy them locally? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I find myself shopping online a lot, when I would much rather buy it in person. Not only that, the shipping and handling can get pretty expensive. Maybe there are not a lot of people purchasing the items that you are referring to. I know that there are a lot of people into scrapbooking now, because this generation is more full of themselves than anyone before them. This is encouraged by sites like Myspace. If I were you I would contact Walmart through e-mail and basically tell them the same thing in the way that you told us. Maybe they can bring back a little section for you. The thing of it is, I heard that these kind of store cater to their neighborhoods. You could visit a Walmart in another city and depending on the cultural majority in that area, find totally different things.

Yeah, it's frustrating. I emailed WalMart when I found out that they were discontinuing the fabric section in about 50% of the stores they have it in and not putting it into new stores. They told me that they've decided to put party supplies in the sections instead. WHAT? They've already got like 2 aisles of party goods next to the greeting cards! It's frustrating to no end.

Yeah, I hate when that happens. I used to use this makeup that I got from there. Well, I went to get another bottle of it one day because I was almost out and they didn't have it anymore. I asked about it and they said they quit carrying it. Well, I found some at Harris Teeter (grocery store). Well, then the next time I ran out I couldn't find it anywhere so I don't know if the company quit making it or what. But I had to change to a different kind. Then when my son was smaller I used to buy that baby dreft stain remover. I went to get a bottle one day and the lady said oh we aren't carrying that anymore and she said they have it at Food Lion. Well, I went to Food Lion and they didn't have it either. So I found some at Target and just had to start buying it there. But I hate when you love something like that and they just quit carrying it.

I think this is not only the problem with walmart, it,s a big problem with most of the big store. The decide to have new stock, so they need to discontinues other stuff. But it's always the stuff we were buying. It as never happen to me like that personnaly, but I work in a big store and when they discontinues a products we kno people buy a lot at our store, we get frustated for the customer.

Yes, they have and it made me really frustrated. I am a vegetarian, and they used to stock these really good veggie "chicken" patties. And one day I went to get some, and they weren't there. And I can't find any other store that has that brand. =(

Oh! Yes Twoey! WTF? This happens weekly at our Super Center. Whats so friggin super about having to drive to anohter Wal-Mart to get what you need? I really hate Wal-Mart, and avoid going there unless I have too. They have discontinued my mousse, my toothpaste, my husband body wash.....lol They were name brands too, and just stopped selling them!! I cant find these items online, else I would buy them that way. Scrapbooking does seem to be taking off, but why cant they keep room for other crafts and projects that people like to do? Im sure you are not the ONLY one wanting to do cross stitching. Do you have a Hobby Lobby where you live? Thats a store for the craft lover! I could walk around in there for hours, they have some of the neatest things. Bay xx

I am sorry to hear about your supplies. What happens to me more often is that the product I am looking for has changed their formula and their packaging.I also have gone to the store and I couldn't find the product but it is at another store of the same name but in a different area. Where I live, there are many Giant Food stores but they all are different. In one they carry the orange soda I like , but in the other they don't carry it.

Walmart is always doing things like that. When it comes to electrionics you have to be very careful too,I purchased a sterio and it broke and when i took it back they no longer had that one anymore, and on top of that they could find no records where they ever carried that kind....I use to work at Walmart and i worked there for over a year and they would change things around ever so often ,they said it was to keep things more interesting HA! can you believe?I do order from Walmart online but it is more of a hassle to do that IF you want it right now...I do not know Why they do this but i am very aware of that problem..When it happens all you can do it make a big scene in front of the customer service dept ,if you do they will try and make you satisfied but when it comes to thread you just cannot change colors in mid stream...

I too (as have many others I am sure) have just found out of the scale down in Walmart's arts and crafts stuf. Less sewing, more scrap booking! I hate it! Though...I have found that sometimes online shopping is the best and the cheapest in the long run. I have found many quality cross stitch kits for amazing prices (even considering the shipping costs) on ebay. So now I go about most of what I do that way. The latest master piece cost me like $6 all together, and would have been much higher in a store. Always look on the bright side! Maybe you'll find better bargains! Good luck!

this is one of the most irritating things about walmart. i too, have begun a crafting projects and if i needed something more to complete it, i go back, naturally to walmart where i bought my supplies. only to find out, as you did, they no longer have what i need because they've changed the crafting section basically into scrapebook city ! don't get me wrong, i too do some scrapbooking etc...but golly, what about my other interest..like painting etc. seems like they've gone way too far with supplying scrapbookers what they need. seems like that's the latest fad to them, so in order to keep up and make $$$, they fill the aisles with all scrapbooking items, and sadly, seems that's they want in their aisles now days. but, same thing has happened to me concerning clothing. and i think it's basically when another store comes into the mall, or neighborhood, such as a kohls.....they re-do their store to compete with the new one that's coming in. but walmart, makes it hard and more so, aggrevating....because they carry certain items, made by a certain company, and these items i loved. but i went in one day, after being there just the day before....only to find out, it seemed they worked all that night to re-arrange, replace and re-do the whole store to keep up with the competition. and the clothing, well they've basically cut it down to barely anything. let alone my fav brands etc. so i found it frustrating because if i had a skirt that went to a set, and i went back...odds are they've stopped carrying that maker, so i'm out of luck with completeing the outfit ! so,now, i do find most of what i need, that i can't get at walmart's any longer, online. but sad to say...not all things so, i compromise and use something else if i can. but i used to be such a walmart freak....loved the store and all they carried but, now days...i have lost interest because of this very thing. i need things to be consistant when i do projects so, i now buy where i know the supplies will be there when i need them ! which is usually a local, small business !

It seems like they do that quite often. I find that alot in the grocery department also. Our store is little and is very space limited and they just keep taking away items to make room for more departments.

I bet that would of upset me too. I mean espically if it is something that has been at Walmart for a good long while. I know since Walmart became a Super Center in my town it isn't the same at all to me.

I discovered this lovely phenomenon when I went in there for, of all things, diapers! They were no longer carrying Luvs! My #5 an't wear anything but Luvs so instead of saving time by going thereafter buying our car weended up going out of our way for no reason and then having to back track even farther to get to another store that carried them. We have a K-mart if Wal-mart doesn't carry it. I'm not muh of an online shopper but probably would if it was an item I really wanted to have.

It was hard to see the whole fabric counter shut down at our WalMart SuperStore, as fabric is the one thing I'd just as soon not have to buy online. Fortunately, being retired we do a bit of traveling and I buy up fabric on our trips and bring it back for "winter" sewing. We don't have any kind of fabric store at all that I know of within over 100 miles now, so we just have to plan ahead! Also, when the fabric counter went away it seems some of the local sewing machine shops went under, too.

First try and see if the company has a website. Many do and very well might have locations where you can find them listed. And there are a couple of site that sell crosstitch supplies as well. As for me, if it is more than 20 miles or so, I would rather order online, due to cost of gas and my time to go so far. Yeah, our Walmart has reduced crosstitch to one tiny stand of floss and a rack of some 20 books, no kits. Such a shame. But scrapping has the lion's share of space now. I scrap too, but geez. And the WalMart nearest me has reduced their fabric area too. It's been given to fake flowers and vases. I have a couple of sites I can order fabrics from. I will, unhappily though, travel the 24 miles to a WalMart in a nearby town that has a lovely fabric area. I guess we stitchers are getting outsted by the yuppie scrappers. Btw, if there should happen to be a Michael's (craft store) near you, try there. The one near me (and thank goodness they've opened one half the ditance from the one I had to go to before), has a pretty nice crosstich area. Good luck, I guess we are going to have to go to more trouble to get our stash goodies. I feel your pain :-) as I am in the same boat.
