Internet threats and risks are prevalent in the online world. Viruses , worms , Trojan horses , spyware , hackers and other malicious code can cause minor annoyances to large-scale damage on computer users` PCs or even their personal identity. How have online threats affected you and what steps do you take now to protect your systems?

First off, welcome to mylot. In order for my PC to be fully secured, I have to install an up-to-date antivirus. Secondly, I have to make sure that my windows firewall is turned ON. On the other hand, I have to use Opera or Mozilla browser as my main browser when surfing the net. These two browsers are safe to use when compared to IE. Have a great day and God speed! ^_^

Protecting ourselves and our computer from viruses has become a necessity in the last few years. Viruses have become more prevalent and more destructive as well. Here are some tips for us to keep ourselves and our PC virus free: 1. Purchase and/or Download an Anti-Virus program to spot viruses. Anti-virus software is a must for any computer connected to the Internet or otherwise. Viruses travel by many means and the first thing you should do is install software to catch the viruses. 2. Update your current Anti-Virus software. Protection against viruses is only as good as your last update. 3. Scan for Viruses regularly. Its a good idea to scan your system on a regular basis to avoid infection. Most anti-virus software scans files as you open them, but its a good idea to run a full scan of your system on a weekly basis. If you do not have an antivirus software product installed on your computer, try using one of the various online virus scanners to scan your system and remove any problems. 4. Watch out for Email Attachments. Viruses attached to email are currently the most common and widespread computer viruses. Although some viruses can attack just by opening email (like the KAK Worm), most won't activate until you open the attachment. 5. How to Disable System Restore in Windows ME or Windows XP Many times viruses cannot be removed properly in Windows ME or XP without first disabling the System Restore features. 6. Use a Firewall to Protect Your Computer from Intruders. The best defense against someone invading your computer is a personal firewall.

install a good antivirus software and also a firewll. i think latest version of McAfee will be better. In the very begining of my entrance to internet world i was told the very basic rules by one of my teachers. It is due to his efforts that i m saved from any threats.

in my opinion, installing a good antivirus software is one way, but from my experience in sevral past years , though i have set up some kind of antivirus such as Norton,Kapersy etc, my computer has still got virus or worm, so i think the antivirus software can't 100% protect our computer, in this case, i have to restore my XP operating system.

Yes do exactly what these posters said. Also get you a good antivirus software. There's alot of free ones, but i really prefer Norton over alot of others. Goodluck and make sure not to open spam mail you don't know from where :)
