A Short Round Bike Trip to the Country on Weekend

Chinese farmers harvesting rice in the field - October is the time for the rice or crops to be harvested. This photo I took shows two Chinese farmers using their rice-cutting truck in the field.

Hello you all, my dear friends. Yesterday afternoon (November 4th, 2007), I went to the country close to the town for a bike-riding to get myself relaxed from hard and busy work. On the way I was so amazed to see a rice-harvesting truck working in the fields. It worked so fast and effectively to get in all the crops within a few minutes before all the crops were cut and grain packed into a big bag. Brought up in the city, I had never seen this and with curiosity I stood there with some other farmers standing next to the field, watching the truck cutting the crops and packing the grains automatically for some time while chatting with them to get more information about farm work and the effective truck. I also took some pictures for mylot friends to share with. So my dear and sincere friends, how did you spend your weekend? Or how do you usually spend your weekend? Do you like to take a short round trip to the country for a bike riding to enjoy the beauty of the country, please?Thank you very much in advance for all of your responses and have a good time as always. Love from Williamjisir

Good Discussion - thank you, Sir William. Much thanks also for your informative uploaded photo. Where man and machine managing and supporting each other in speeding up the harvesting process time. With the local machine production and the local people brags the agriculture-based-industry to generate own country economic value. I appreciate that hard working attitude and the team building shown on that photo, as I saw your photo in an industrious view. And I love bike-riding, sometime I enjoy riding with my husband and my 3 kids. We used to be in that such activity. OK for my weekend schedule and its fulfillment, I am taciturn in this case, because lately mylot has successfully won the game. It took my time for my weekend leisure. Worth it to have you in my friends list, really made me happy to be on mylot. Your activeness on mylot encourages me to make 'race' after you. Speeding with 'Wisdom'.

Good afternoon, my dear good sign friend. I am so happy to see you around today and thank you very much for your nice comment to my discussion. I have taken quite a few photos yesterday next to the field. I hope that I can upload one more for you to see here with my response to yours. I am not sure whether I am allowed to upload one more photo. Anyway I will have a try. I appreciate your response very much and have a good time with your hubby, hehehehehe.

My pleasure to have this second photo. Thanks Sir William, for your extra efforts uploading this second photo. It reminisce me for my childhood life, where I came from a 'rice bowl' village.

What a wonderful way to spend the day! I have many pictures that I have collected on the internet that relax me when I look at them, and more than a few of them are of rice paddies and water buffalo! Of course that big machine doesn't look too much like a water buffalo, but it's a great shot nevertheless. One of the things I would like to do in my life is put a backpack on my back, with a small tent and a few supplies and go on a bicycle tour through the country. Riding my bike all day, enjoying this beautiful land and the fresh air. Then in the evening I would set my tent up in a peaceful place, preferably with a little creek or stream nearby and prepare my evening meal over a campfire. It would be even better with a good friend! And thank you for posting such a pleasant topic for others to respond to!

Hello zigzag buddha. I am much appreciated for your response to this discussion of mine. Yes, it would be very nice to go and tour somewhere with friends bringing our sleeping bags and tents in the country for much more fun. Thank you very much for your participation and I appreciate it very much. By the way I was looking to search for your discussions, but found none. I hope to receive your new discussions as well in the near future.

You are right. Going round a country side is very refreshing. The chirping sounds of birds, a still water lake, clean air, the smell of the earth (agricultural lands), the innocent and helpful people, the sprawling greenery -- all these enlivens us. Thanks for reminding us of our good old days where I used to have all of it and carved for city life.

Hello my dear friend ssh. Thanks for your response to this topic. I really had a good time yesterday afternoon from taking a short bike trip to the nearby country and what was the most pleasant part to me was to have seen the rice-cutting truck that I had never seen. I got to know from one of the farmers that it was more than 200,000 RMB for the truck. It is much more expensive than to have a general and good car. But it is worth it as the truck can help the owner to make more money than what the owner paid for. Thanks for your response, dear ssh. By the way, I am not satisfied with the arrangement of my discussion as I forgot to make a gap for each paragraph. I am a little upset for my not-well-arranging the discussion. I am so sorry for that.

so you had lots of funs and witnessed some colourful beauty of nature..offcourse you can feel the fresh air and cool breeze from open space without noise pollution in country side.. last time when i went to my native village for the very first time i saw the beautiful fields with green shadow and gentle breeze all over the places which filled my heart and mind with peace..excellent sight to see and enjoy the beauty..i too took some pictures to show it to my friends.. Iam residing in a metro city and i need to travel a long distance to view such calm country side places which is not possible..hence either i take rest, do some craft work or go out with friends in weekends.very rarely i get to see this kind of scenary when i visit my native..

That is true indeed. I love the beauty of the country with fresh air and it is out of the noisy city, where I can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. I am so sorry that it is not easy for you to pay a visit to the country as you live in a metropolitan city. I hope that you will have some chances later to visit the country on your long vacation. Thanks for your nice response, my dear subathra. I appreciate it very much. Have a good day.

You remind me of my nice trips in Yangshuo. I have been there several times and every time we had bike trips nearby. It was a very fantastic experience. We don't have bike trips in our city. It is not very possible and there is not nice views and fresh air.

bike-riding in the country - It is such a nice day to have a bike riding in the country with fresh blowing your face.
I am so sorry that you don't have nice views and fresh air. I guess that it is because you are living in a big city where there are many factories that pollute the air. Yes, Yangshuo is a nice place in Guangxi Province and my American colleagues have just been there for the National Day and they told me that they did the same thing like you did. They rented two bikes from the local people who do bicycle-renting business. And it is cheap to rent a bicycle and they did have a nice time in Yangshou. Thank you very much, dear youless for your participation and your bicycle-riding experience in Yangshou.

Hi William.. Morning. It is really nice that you took a break from your routine, and had a good trip to the rural areas, as otherwise, the number of posts against your name would have zoomed by another 100...LOL.. Thanks for the BRAKE which YOU put on mylotting...lolz:) I have mentioned about my passion for riding bikes another discussion, "How would you spend time when you feel bored".. Similar to your temperment i just go riding on any path for about hour or so..for relaxing and sit in a calm and serene place for some time and enjoy the beauty of silence... and return. Happy mylotting friend. Take Care.

WOW!! That sounds so refreshing, Lucky you!! That the advantage of being a male. Many a times I wish to let go to some country side, which is about 4-5 hours drive from my home. But my parents are hesitant and I have to control myself. I miss out on the greens and fresh air and the cordiality of the village men. The photo is very candid and I got to see a rice cutting machine for the first time ever. Now, don’t laugh, William, I will have to catch up with stuffs like that. My weekend was as drab as it gets. I settled some old jobs and will round off with the rest this weekend. However, this weekend will be more fun. We are celebrating Diwali, the festival of lights and Bhaiya Duj, where we perform rituals for the well bimg of brothers. This means lots of lights, colors, food, gifts and fun!! I am looking forward to it. You have a great weekend as well! Smiles…

I could imagine how relaxing and wonderful to cycle in such a beautiful environment of a country farm. I like this type of activity since young as there are lots of country sides around. In those old days I used to see buffaloes ploughing the field. But now the farmers are using machines and the buffaloes are found resting there enjoying the farmers doing the work, lol... Really the use of machines could help a lot in farm manual works instead of merely using labor of man or animal. I am a nature lover so at weekend I like to spend my leisure at the foot hill nearby along a beautiful and peaceful stream where the air there is rather cool and fresh.

It is a good activity indeed for you to take a ride in the nearby country side. It is quite healthy for a white collar to relax oneself after a week of hard day work. The natural atmosphere there could always give us much inspiration. We could really witness the change of the environment as times passing mercilessly. I appreciate your enthusiasm as to send the attachment of image so as I could enjoy part of the actual situation of the place you had visited. You look cool and taller as compared with the earlier avatar where you were standing in front of a tea chamber. I think it can be recommended as your next avatar. Your problem of dissatisfactory arrangement of the response after uploading a photo might be due to certain reasons. From my experience, after uploading any image you need to preview the response to see whether it complies with the original arrangement before posting. Otherwise you have to make necessary adjustment by editing. In your case I am not sure whether it really works unless you have tried so. Have a nice day, my friend.

self-taken photo in the country close to the Mt - This is me standing on one side of the countryroad with the mountain as the background.
Hello lkbooi. I am so glad to have your response to my discussion. Yes, with the development of agriculture and mechanics, I am happy that our hardworking buffaloes could have a good rest from working so hard in the fields like they used to. It is good for them to just eat and play in the water or somewhere else to enjoy their leisure life. Speaking of buffaloes, I am so sorry that I didn't take the picture of a real buffalo eating grass in the field that day when I was chatting with a nice farmer. It is still very nice that you could have some quiet streams that you could go to for the pleasure of the peaceful streams with fresh air and little birds singing at the streams. It is a very nice spot though. Another photo I took for you to enjoy. Best wishes, Williamjisir

Hello again lkbooi. I find it strange that my well-arranged response is not what I expect after uploading a picture. It is the same to this very discussion of mine, from which you could see. But if I don't upload a photo, it is like what I wished like the response to the one above yours. I feel a little upset for this. Do you know why and how to avoid this problem, please? Thanks for sharing.

I live in a wide spread out city so it takes a while to get to the countryside. I do not get out much except for Sunday I go to Church. But either on Saturday or on Sunday around four, my older son and his wife and baby girl, and my other son are coming over and we are going out to a restaurant. My sons's birthday was on the 14th, and both of them work, so the weekend is the only time we can be together without worrying about having to get up early the next day. Usually when we go to the country, we are on vacation and we pass through it on the way to whatever city or province we are on our way to.

Hello suspenseful friend. It is also very nice to live in a big city as there are so many parks, which are very nice for people to enjoy themselves by talking a walk or doing some other exercise there. My parents love to go to the parks in the city where they live and do morning exercise there and later in the evening after they finish their dinner, they always go and take a walk along the river bank. Life in the city makes them happy as well.

that's an interesting sight to see. I also enjoy watching rural activities. I live near a lake and sometimes when I go there early in the morning, I often see fishermen unloading their catch or setting up their nets early in the morning or fishermen standing silently meters from the shore holding their fishing rods and waiting for a bite. and then there's also women sorting the fish catch and there would be people hovering around already taking a look of what they might buy. this is the usual sight in our neighborhood. however, I seldom go there and watch during weekends because early in the morning I tend to be lazy and wake up late. LOL and then I would spend the whole day staying at home watching tv or dvd and have a good rest. ^__^ or get online. ^__^

its actually the largest lake in our country, Laguna Lake. and its really unfortunate that its becoming more polluted as years pass by even with a government agency that is tasked to protect, care and manage the lake.

Good afternoon dear secret bear. It is so nice a location in which you live. I love to see a vast area of lake because its wide view makes me feel so good. I remember I went to the Taihu Lake one time with my wife and mother and another time with my colleagues having a meeting there and still another time with my students and colleagues. I have always been fond of seeing the great Taihu Lake and I feel very relaxed there for its vast sight without end. You are very lucky to have such a nice location close to the lake though you seldom go there. Anyway it is still easy for you to go if you want to. Thanks for your nice response, dear friend.

I am so sorry for the lake to have been polluted to some degree. It is the same to the Taihu Lake that I mentioned above. Just this year it has happened some times that there burst out some kind of stuff that I cannot name in English as the word is seldom used by me. hehe. I guess that you have understood me. hehehe. Well, it is something floating on the lake and becomes more and more. Got it, please? Thanks so much for your one hundred percent understanding. lol

Your bike ride sounds really relaxing and enjoyable. You saw some lovely sights in the countryside. I have a bike that can get up even very steep hills. I got a love of cycling from when I lived in the Netherlands for four months. The cycling I did there past the pretty windmills and canals was so lovely. I thought it was so great that I did much cycling when I came home.

I am happy to see you around my dear friend. I bought my Dutch bike home but its three gears were no good for all the Welsh hills. I bought a bike with twenty one gears. It was very useful when I had to cycle six miles to work and then home again. That was a hilly journey, along country roads and a lovely cycle path. I was a healthy way to travel giving me fitness for straight after that teaching contact I had an energetic time doing lots of walking in beautiful New Zealand. I luckily have a shed to keep my bike in but those days I had to keep my bike by my front door.

Hello friend. It is so nice and healthy a way to take a bike to go to work for six miles back and forth though the roads are hilly. I am glad that you have a nice bike with 21 gears that can help ride more smoothly and it is enjoyable to have such a bike. Mine is just an ordinary bike, but I love it very much. Thank you very much for your further response, dear friend.

Hi Will. Sounds as if you had a nice mind opening experience there, good for you. Many people who lives in the city has no idea about how agriculture actually works. Bet there is chinese who still believe that rice is grown in the supermarket. Usually every other weekend of mine I will be busy working and if I am not working there is so many things that needs doing. Once upon a time I would have had a trip as the one you describe, but now a days I simply do not seem to have the time or energy any more. I might still tho allow Mette to persuade me to go for a ride to the countryside, but then it will be in the car, which is not as enjoyable as a bike ride, as you do not get the fresh air, the smell or any other stimulation of the senses. God I feel like going for a bike ride now :)

Hello dear kimthedane. I am so happy to have your response. I was thinking how you had been before this. I hope that my friend is doing well. Yes, it is a very experience to be able to ride to the country by bike as I could enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery. The most pleasant thing for me is to have seen how they used the rice-cutting truck or machine to harvest the rice as it was the first time that I had ever seen. I hope that you will also have some time for a bike trip to the country some day soon. Thank you very much for your response, dear kim.

I and my family spend our weekends together. We go shopping and go to our favorite park. My baby loves when we go out of town. She enjoy travelling and being in a new place and new environment for just a day. You can see the happiness and contentement in her face after the whole day out. When we are at people's park you can't stop my baby from roaming around the place. Though she still learning to walk but she try her best to walk on her own and enjoy the beauty of the park:)

Good morning, dear sheenmadness. Thanks for asking your being able to upload the photo. So I think that it is your first time to have uploaded your photo. I am glad that you happened to find it. To answer your question, yes, you can upload your photos when you respond to a discussion. You don't have to reach 500 before you can upload a photo, but you need to reach 500 posts before you can copy and paste something, but it needs to be something of your own stuff, not just copy others or it is considered violation to mylot. I am glad to see this photo of your baby and teen nanny. I guess that it won't be two or three days before you reach 500 if your average would reach more than twenty posts a day on condition that you have enough time at Mylot. Have a good day, my dear sheenmadness friend. Best wishes, Williamjisir

Good morning, dear laurika. I still think that you had a very weekend as you had been to some shops for shopping and looking around. I love to spend my weekend in some big supermarkets in my town to see what I can get from there. Usually there can be always something that I need there without my pre-planned items to be bought. It is also some nice and pleasant pastime doing some shopping and looking around in shops. I hope that you will have a very good time with your country-fellows in the coming weekend.
