Ways of choosing a book to read

In reading a book how do you decide whether you’ll grab one or leave it in a shelf? Most people read the synopsis summary at the back of the book while some rely on the urge of a friend or those who are more incline to aesthetic would choose a book with enticing cover. As for me, I often get attracted with the design but still if the synopsis is not in my preference list then there’s no chance of taking it home with me.

I dont look into preferences when it comes to choosing a book. I tend to avoid judging the images of a cover or reading a synopsis, since I have found out that it sometimes discourages a reader such as myself to avoid reading a book. I prefer to actually read the book not know what the book is about since with reading a book and avoiding s book by just judging the images and synosis may make you lose the chance at reading a book that in the end may be one of you your favorite and prefered books to recomend to readers.

My way of selecting a book begins by going to a section of interest. Following that I browse titles. If a book title sounds interesting I then read further. While the recommendations help mostly the synopsis leads me to believe it is what I may want. At times I find something totally unexpected that gets my interest and that makes me read further. The problem with this is it is limiting. I know it is but with thousands of books to pick from you can't read them all.

Opinions from friends would be a big help especially if you don’t know what to buy or if the book is really good or not.

Hello katkat, I always read the synopsis of the book in a local newspaper where they have a weekly column for book reviews. From there, I will go to the bookstore to look for it. I will slip through the book, a few pages in the middle and also read the synopsis summary at the back of the book. If I found it more than interesting to read, I will buy it and start to read. I have few favorite authors that I never miss to read their books. Some new authors, I will practice these rules to see whether I need to start reading the book or not.

I used to refer to my friends suggestions or recommendation and also the good feedback for a certain book. If not I used to refer to synopsis summary at the back and how good is the book cover. I also consider the price of the book, especially if I'm on a budget ^__^

The price of the book is also a good way to choose a book especially if the content is also worth it to be read.

I select books based on the author. If the book was written by my favorite author, i'll read it. But if the book is new, I'll wait till many people read and post their views. I'll try to find the theme or plot of the story. I'll select if it is impressive, no matter whichever author has written it.

For me, I am quite clear about the kinds of books I like. I look at the title, the book cover and the synopsis. If any catches my eye, I will likely get the book. If it is by an author I know I like, then it would be one vote in the book's favor. I don't really care about reviews or critiques. Well, not that much. Besides, I don't actively look out for them. =)

yes, most time we read just for information, news or some helpful tips ,both in life and in business. it's easy to choose such books. However, I dont think that could be called "reading". I want to read some books for relaxing from the daily routine and enjoying my time in another world. Certainly, it would be more satisfied to see the wisdom of other great man. With different education or lifestyle, one's food could be anther man's poison, even it could be happened between friends . Of course, I consider my friends' suggestions too. I believe in the luck very much. I believe it's the God brings the right book to me at the right time. Glanced at it with several pages, and I know it's the right book.

I'll admit to being a person who is more interested in the aesthetics. But I do enjoy specific genres and authors and stick inside that realm. And if someone I know reads something within that genre that I haven't heard of and they've enjoyed it, I'll check it out. But other than friends suggestions and knowing authors and genres, I don't really pay any attention to other types of books. I'm not very risky with my reading, I guess.

I like reading books and go to the library as possible as I can .When I go to a library I always choose the books to read as follows :first ,I will take the kind I always read;then, the one I feel the description I have interest on it ;last I will choose some books which the name or the cover is interesting. But if my friend recommend one to me and tell me this is a good you should not miss ,I will read it at first.

I sometimes read what my friends suggest, sometimes read the summary, sometimes I choose something by an author if I have read another of their books and liked it. Every once in a while, since I shop at book sales pretty often where the books are very, very cheap, I take a chance and just pick up a book randomly. I have nothing to lose, except maybe the 25 cents it cost me. I have discovered some really good books this way.

Well, talk about reading, I have some favorite writers. I read all of their books without ask a question. And for a while I read the book reviews and look for the book I might be interested. It is happy to find a good book. But there is one thing I always feel proud, that is I read very fast. So if I choose a wrong book, it won't take me much time to find out.

Infact there are certain criteria that i set before reading a book.usually in case of books and movies i am a guy who considers opinions of other seriously.if i get five or six opinions that a particular book is not good, then i usually dont read that book.again i dont have any special inclination towards fiction,to be frank most of the times i prefer other books rather than novels or short stories.i like more of the analytical books because i feel i get more information from them rather than from fiction.but at certain times for relaxation i also go through classic novels or short stories.now a days i dont get much time for reading general books, infact i am too much busy with my studies.

I love to read... I buy most of my books at walmart or another department store. I usually pick my books by who the author is. I always look to see if I recognize the author, and if I do, then I'll read the back and see if it looks interesting. Occasionally I'll pick up a book because a friend recommended it, but for the most part, I know what I like already and will read everything that author has written. My girls are the same way.... once they find an author they like, they make sure they always get their new book.

mostly by recommendation. if lots of people say it's good, i'll buy it. doesn't matter the cover illustration is rubbish or had no cover at all

I usually go with a friend's suggestion or even a professor's suggestion maybe. The "Best Seller's List" is whack! My mother gave me some book and I was like, what is this? I've never heard of it. She replies with, oh well, it was on the best seller's list.... um...... it was not a great read. I got thru about a quarter of the book and I could not take it anymore! lol Also, once I find an awesome novel, I will continue to seek out other novels by the same author.
