Is money really the root of all Evil

I have a pastor that tells me that Poverty is sometimes a sin because Jesus doesn't preach poverty to his followers.
I would then say that is money really the root of all evils or is the lack of it the cause of all evils

So, Jesus didn't preach poverty, but did he preach wealth and excess? I don't see how your pastor's statement really holds water when you look at it in both ways, you know?
Just because he didn't "preach poverty" doesn't make it a horrendous thing. There are good and bad people of all walks of life.
