Let's be honest here. One of the most worst things you can eat is the french fry. Anything fried, mo matter what the oil you use, is high in calories. Also, many of the oils used for frying are not good for your heart. The high incidence of heart disease in the US can be blamed in part on french fries. White potatoes are not only a high calorie food but also a high carbohydrate food. A potato is very starchy. This starch is changed into a sugar in your bloodstream. So not only fattening, but also a contributor to the high instance of diabetes in the US. Adding ketchup, which is very high in high fructose corn syrup, not only adds calories but also is a major cause of diabetes. You're probably also drinking a soda with those fries - lots more high fructose corn syrup unless that soda's diet. And of course there's salt on those fries. Lots of salt. Salt is a major cause of high blood pressure. Salt isn't high in calories, but it can cause fluid retention - meaning extra water weight. So yes, french fries are very fattening and very bad for your health. Sorry.

I like french fries too but I don't tend to eat them often. Yeah the truth is they do carry a lot of carbohydrates and the more salt the worse. But there are other foods to consider that can really make you fat if one were to not watch what they eat.

Well, fries are made from potato (carbohydrates) and fried in fat, neither are good for slimming. However, it depends on how many you eat, and on your personal metabolism, whether or not they'll make you fat.

Well french fries are not good for you but they sure are yummy. Guess you could eat them in moderation though.

I love french fries too. Way back in college me and my group of friends used to order like 6 big french fries from McDonalds and just pour it in the tray and we eat from there. French fries are so yummy and some say it's fattening, esp. my mom. I don't know if it's true too but I guess it depends on how many you eat.

Haha. Yeah! Don't worry about fatty foods too much. Eating healthy is somewhat overrated. Young, fit people who exercise can't possibly gain weight from eating fast food once a day.

Well I don't think thats true at all. I think it all depends on a persons metabolism and body structure. Im now 30 but I have put nothing but junk into my body and in tens years I have held a steady weight of 130lbs. I believe in some people eating greasy foods like that might make them fat but I think if your naturally skinny then chances are your not going to get fat.

Nothing deep fried in oil is good for any diet but if you only eat a little of it or only eat it once in a while you aren't going to get fat. My kids eat french fries at least 3 times a week between school and home and they are lean and muscular.
