February 11 is Clean Out Your Computer Day! I've gotten the jump on it, and have been working on mine for three days... its amazing how many things I thought were important enough to save! So I've been dumping, deleting, and burning discs... saving many of my photos in photobucket.com instead of on my 'puter... and defragging, running spybot, etc. I'm looking forward to having my zippy little system back where it was! Oh, Feb. 11 is also Make a New Friend Day...

Thanks for that, Gives me an excuse for chilling out on my pc. It's amazing what you get special days for now. I think some of them are a bit bizarre though. I will also make a new friend on that day.

Oh, and FYI, February is the month of: National Pet Dental month. It was actually also (before I knew) starting to really get worried about my cats' teeth, of the importance to clean them. Went to store and bought them pet toothbrushes and toothpaste. Obviously won't be easy to get them into it though. Wish me luck! :o)

I've got Virgo rising and I've read that Virgo is the sign the 'cleans out from under the fridge'. Hehehe... so cleaning out my computer is actually one of my favorite activities. I often will be up all night sorting and deleting and re-filing, etc. But one thing that I have been procrastinating on is backing up all my music with a hard copy. My daughter even gave me a bunch of cds for that purpose. So now I know when I'm going to do it... on Feb 11!! Thank you for the inspiration!

I'm not the most organized person, but between keeping my 'puter up to snuff and running a myspace group page, I'm learning to prioritize. I hope this will translate to my craft and sewing room soon... keeping things straight in the real world is much more work!LOL!

D4mn... every time I try to answer this, I need a peace break!! I hope he's just too young to realize the error of his ways... some of US live in a perpetual state, as well!LOL! And I thot that the name of that period of time that guarantees the goodies for Valentine's Day was called 'the other 364 days'!?!

Hey alamode... you forgot the 'Valentines' day for women to show their appreciation for men, it falls on March 20th and is called "Steak, bl0w job, and shut the phuck up day". It falls in March so that in February they will try harder to please us women with expensive gifts etc., in the hopes that we will go all out on their 'special' day! Hehehe. Works for me!

I really need to clean off my pc as well. Can you tell me a little more about photobucket? Is it safe to store images on there or do you take the chance of having them deleted? Also can other ppl view them or is it completely private? I'd love to find a place to store some of my things but I worry about losing them. I have a 120 GB and I'm down to 11GB so I really need to clean mine up. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I haven't made a private album, but I know that you can. I believe they only delete if they're VERY naughty... and on public view. I've done backup on cds just in case, and I do have the originals in a box in my office. I'm afraid to find out how much I've used!LOL!

Okay, the least I can do is put the photos on here on disc. I think I started putting some photos on yahoo way back when - I should check on that too. This is a fairly new computer so don't have much on it. I had to do the housekeeping on the old one not too long ago when we left it with a kid at college. A good reminder to do this more often. Oh, and it's make a new friend day. Will definitely add someone on here! Hmm, and the alternative would be to go out trawling the neighborhood! Ewww..whit

If you've only done it once, you're okay... I'd done mine 3 times! and had 7% of my storage left! We've gained some back, thanks to my genius granddaughter...

My old computer is about 1/2 byte away from being frozen up! I had trouble with everything on that one... and thats where our business records are stored! And of course I can only use floppies, so I need to first find some that I can use to clean that one... I may need to add an external storage unit to that one! Backup is the most important thing I thought I was doing on my NEW computer... but it messed up my VISTA, because VISTA doesn't need to be backed up! That has been the biggest problem I've found with it... otherwise, this new computer, paired with Comcast, is the bomb! Backup will fill your 'restore' file and you can't get rid of it, so if it tells you to back up your files, don't do it!

Yes, photos are what take up the most space on my computer. But it's nice to have them so you can quickkly search or find them. Otherwise, you forget about them. Thanks for cleaning announcement. ;o)

The smallest thing I do for storage problems is to go into my photo shop and resize my photos... I can convert them to tiny gifs, and they take up very little space. I have a sticker on my monitor that says 'RESIZE', so I don't forget to fix them when I want to use them!

Mine seem to do fine, but I don't make them microscopic. Taking a pic to 2", down from 4", cuts that file in half. I haven't used pixel count, but that may work even better????? I know that all bitmaps need to be made into gifs or jpegs... bitmaps are WAY too huge!

But if you make them smaller in gif form, in the futre, if you want to make a bigger print or so, you would have lost the large size, right? I know, most of my pics show up on computer as big as like poster form, which is not needed, but takes so long to make them each smaller. And also always contemplating if I nmight want them blown up in future. Am I right that when you shrink them to small er size, they are permanently small?

Its a perfect time... between Christmas and tax time, when there actually is free time available! My 'puter was my Pop's legacy to me... I will keep it A-1 and tip-top always!

Thanks for the reminder! Normally, once a month, I'll back up all my information onto blank dvd's and then run a virus scan, spy bot scan, and an adware scan. It's frustrating that it has to be this way, but what else can you do?

And defrag! And every day, I dump my temp files and cookies... I don't actually get cookies because my firewall is so good, but it never hurts to check. Thats so smart... stop problems before they start. Your 'puter will be happy for a long time... and what would we do without 'em?
