Do YOU Believe That A Positive Attitude Goes A Long Way?

This may seem like a silly question. We hear things about how important a positive attitude is all the time. People may know this on the inside, but not show it on the outside. Some people are always negative and never pass up the chance to complain. The thing that bothers me the most is when people complain about things that they don't have to deal with. I attempt to be as positive as I can, but I always have someone around me who is being negative. I want to say something like, "Shoo fly, don't bother me." But the true of the matter is, I have to deal with a lot of these people on a daily basis. I am learning to have patience and gently remind them that life may not be as bad as it seems. I have a friend,(and I am so not kidding about this) if I say to her, why do you look so sad? She will answer by saying, because there is nothing to be happy about. If I say, you look so happy today, she will respond with a smile and a positive comment. The first time this happened, I wasn't sure. I said surely, I can not change someones mood just by suggesting the opposite. I did it a few more times and each time it works and she does not even realize what I am doing. To me, that is absolutely amazing. But it proves how your positive or negative words can affect others moods. So be more positive and it will help everyone around you to be happier. Have a blessed night.

I know what you mean....I am a positive person also and people have a tendency to be drawn to me...maybe just to make them smile....I do believe a positive attitude draws more then people...it draws a happier life for yourself. I wonder what it's like to get up in the morning and hate everything like some people do.....I like waking up and being happy that I have been so blessed....for even if you don't have alot...there are others that have less.

If people could just learn to be happy for the everyday things, they would find even more to be positive about. But a lot of people get too comfortable with taking the everyday things, like waking up in the morning, for granted.

yes i do believe that a positive attitude can go a very long way, but I have found that what some time appears to be a positive attitude is nothing more than wishful thinking. and that can get you in over your head very often, I was very young and i applied for a job, I was so sure I could do the job that I came across as very ambitious and willing to give it my all. It was only after I soon learned that what I applied for was way beyond my years and experience, and I had to go back to the kind man who hired me and tell him I was not able to do the proper job, he said he could see that I was in trouble and was on the verge of letting me go but as I recognized I had a problem and came to him I was allowed to quit rather than let go as being incompetent, That is only one application of an over the moon positive attitude that might not be so good, but learning I was less experienced than I believed did set me up for a real good start to working and that was the last time I told some one I couldn't do a job because I always made sure I knew what I was getting in to. good discussion

You had confidance in yourself and that is why you applied for that job. That is also why you got it. You believed that you could do it. That is a very good attitude. Thanks for sharing.

Positive attitude donot go a long way, but takes one to greater heights, highest performance sometimes even beyond optimum level. That is the power of positive thinking. All psychologists for decades have been insisting on positive thinking, coupled with efforts and enthusiasm by a person will enable him to achieve supernatural achievements. We see it in all field of activities everyday, yet some of us fail to understand its significance simply because we listen, we do not implement about positive thinking. It is nothing but feeding positive thinking to mind now and then.

Thats a very good insight. I have a co worker who always have something negative to say about me or to me. When she found out I was going to do the paralegal she said "Why would any one wnat to be a paralegal secretary?" I had to say to her that she talks too much without thinking or understanding things and if she does not understand she should shut up. Where in God's name have you ever heard of a paralegal secretary? I say sometimes people just are negative by nature and never have anything good to say about anyone. Keep being positive and dont let the negativism get you down and one love as we say in Jamaica.

Some people are just toxic for us and we can do our best to steer clear of them. One Love, I like that.

I like this discussion very much. It also reminds me of someone who whenever I say something she would ahve a negative to say about it. when I decided to become a paralegal she called me a "paralegal secretary" of course everyone knows that there is no career as that because a paralegal will always be higher than a secretary. I smiled at her and told her that it was what I wanted and her response did not make any sense. I have out that people are most of the times negative and I try to have a positive spirit even when I am on my face. Having apositive attitude does wonders for the spirit, those around you and your body. People will certainly love to be around you and if you love peopel like I do - thats a plus. Good discussion. keep it up. God bless.

I believe that a lot of people don't realize that it doesn't matter what is going on in their lives, they can still choose the attitude they want to have.

I think by nature people feel negative, and are negative. We want want want, this makes us negative because we dont get these wants quick enough, in many cases I believe that that Americans and the British are the most childish nations on this planet.

Being a positive person not only is beneficial to us individually but also to those around us without a doubt....I have found that being positive and seeing the good in even the worst of situations sets off a chain reaction...Like I tell numerous ppl in my life..put out a positive flow and thats what flows back to you....

Hi Rozie I would rather be around positive people then negative people. Even when things are not going well in my life I would rather just be myself until I get positive again. I think being positive and never giving up does effect our life. When your positve things always seem to work out for you in some way or another.xx

Yes, your life will ultimately take the direction of your thinking. If you believe that bad things are going to happen, that is what will happen. If you believe that good things will happen that is what you are going to get in your life.

It definitely does. Even if I am having the worst day and someone says something nice to me, it can help to turn my worst day into something positive. When my son laughs and Im in a mood, he can say something funny and I would laugh right along with him and begin to let go of my moods. Even thinking about having a positive outlook to your day as soon as you wake up really helps me. It may be miserable outside but I tell myself, ok I'm going to have a nice day today no matter what.

And when you start the day with that attitude, then you spend your day focusing on the positive. This is the way you have decided your day is going to be. And it is really that simple. We decide what kind of day we have. We can say, I am not going to let that get to me today. I have already decided that I am going to have a good day and nothing is going to ruin it for me. But if you decide that you are going to have a lousy day, you will start focusing on everything negative. There is no limit to how low you can get. This is why I love children so much. Being around them is such a priveledge and a joy. They are yet untainted by the word. It seems like they know just what to say and do to get you out of a mood. They are so precious.

Yeah I think a positive attitude will go a long way in helping your life out. Thats basically what the secret is if youve ever seen or read the book. They basically say that a positive attitude will get you anything you want. Wich I dont see how it can get you everything you want. But I do agree that if you have a positive attitude your life will be better. Try it out one day by saying im going to have a great day and see if it works. I usally do that and most of the time it does work for me.

I have never understood why they call that book "The Secret." Those who steady the Word of God has known every secret in that book for a very long time.

None of us are able to keep a positive attitude at all times, but this is what we strive for. After all, we are only human.

You are so right about having a positive attitude. I have seen what taking the high side and trying to have a positive attitude can do for people. I know that when my former father in law was diagnosed with cancer, everyone but my former husband and I were basically just waiting for him to die. Unfortunately we lived 150 miles away, so we couldn't be there to be a positive influence around him. A little over a year ago, my new mother in law was diagnosed with lunch cancer stage 4. She was given 4-6 months. That was November of 2006. She is still with us and doing ok. She has been fighting it every step of the way. She has kept a positive attitude towards it, and so has everyone around her. I think that makes all the difference.

I believe a positive attitude is the same thing as a "hopeful" attitude and without hope, a person is almost doomed to their own self-fulfilling prophecies. If you look for the negative in a situation, you will find it and likewise if you look for the positive in an experience you will find that too. I think the key is finding a balance between hope and reality while giving a small amount of attention to the "what if's." Our attitude can affect every facet of our lives. I think that having a positive/hopeful attitude opens the human mind to possibilities we wouldn't consider with a negative or defeated attitude. How can you solve problems or make good choices for yourself without being hopeful of a positive outcome? It has been proven that postive thinking even has an impact on health as many cancer survivors have shared that it was the key to their beating the disease.
