Guns Don't Kill People. Stupidity Kills People

How many egregious gun crimes will be committed before our society says "no more?" For most of you who know me, you know I am largely conservative in many areas. Gun control is an issue I am slowly starting to break from other conservatives on. The problem is the vast majority of people in this country who own firearms follow the rule of law and do not cause trouble. But within the body of this country is a cancer of people who can and will use guns to commit various crimes. (Don't shoot for me making a cancer reference) Be it one student in Bailey Colorado or more than two handfuls in Littleton Colorado or nearly 3 scores of people in Virginia. The second amendment is flawed in modern America. When the constitution was written there was a very real fear that the United States could be attacked or invaded by a European power and much of the country was still wilderness. This formed from British colonial law in the mid-1600's. All very sensible given the times. The constitution is the foundation of our country's beliefs and law. But as proven in the past it has been wrong. Slavery was constitutionally legal until 1865 and the 13th Amendment. Unfortunately the 2nd Amendment did not predict how guns were going to advance. In the last decades of the 18th century firearms were vastly different than the firearms of today. They were muskets. To load, reload and fire was a process and a time consuming one at that. Either you make dang sure you can hit your target or make sure you have a squad of guys firing and hope some hit their target. Our founding fathers did not predict that someone could have a handgun that would hold an order of magnitude more ammo, fire more accurately and be just as deadly. How things stand now it is not tolerable any more. Personally I think any crime that involves a firearm should have a mandatory 10 year or 100,000 fine (or any combination thereof) sentence in addition to the time committed. It does not infringe the 2nd amendment and does not punish people who lawfully own and use guns. Your thoughts?
