Research is a tough profession

I have been working as a research assistant at a large biotechnology laboratory in Ohio. The thing about my job is that you might work hard for years and not be able to achieve much. It can be very frustrating sometimes that you start working on a long procedure (several days or weeks), and at one point you screw-up one thing all your work can go down the drain. To give you another example, I work with very expensive materials. Little tubes (less than a ml can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. If you accidently forget a tube at room temperature for a few hours is the same as throwing money down the drain. It's tough to be a scientist.
