My mother still calls me and my brother and sister to remind us "Do not eat meat on Fridays!" LOL It is a habit already so I usually will have some kind of seafood on Fridays during lent until Easter. That linguine and white clam sauce discussion of yours has me planning on making this on Friday.

though the rubrics have not changed about abstaining from meats on all fridays of the year - not just during lent. one must be given a dispensation

I'm not a Catholic so I do eat meat on Fridays. I know when I was in school they only served fish sticks or some other fish on Fridays because of the catholic students. I never understood the reason behind not eating meat and the eating of fish on Fridays.

one of the hardest things since moving away from Catholic areas is the stores always decide to do samples on fridays and they are always the most tantalizing smells of sausage or bacon...or something italian and I tend to forget that fact when I head out to shop on a friday... payday being Thursday and all.

Nope don't follow that at all. I eat meat or fish when I feel like it.

we abstain from flesh meat on all fridays of the year unless that friday lands on a double major feast day (holy day of obligation) in which case we celebrate and do not fast or abstain. though, we do not always eat fish on friday - we often will eat cheese and veggie pizza, or burritos, or beans, or veg. soups - or any variety of foods - just not flesh meats. how about you? I recently learned that it was never the custom for the Church in MExico to abstain on fridays... so it is not a universal practice.

I haven't lived under the fish on Friday rule since I was a kidlet. I eat whatever I feel like having. Sometimes I want fish on another day. It doesn't matter to me.

Oh yes I love fish and chips with mushy peas from the local chipshop so that is a definate friday meal for us at home. My daughter dosn't like fish so she will usually have a pie and chips though. End of the month where money running short I will still do a fish meal at home. Ellie :D

I'm a Catholic and since it is Lenten Season, I don't eat meats on Fridays. I usually prepare a lot of meat dishes during Fridays but for the moment its fish. Its okay for me to abstain from eating meat because its not going to be too long. After Lent, we can eat meat again.
