Retirement Does not Mean Giving Up on Life?

Many people retire and feel that the worthiness to this world is over. That is so far far from the truth, Grandma moses started painting at 80 years old, There was a woman at Concordia University who graduated with her degree at 77 years old the same year that I graduated. The man next door from me retired from his man job, and opened a renovation business where he does all the work and he is 72 years old. A retired 95 year old professor of Math, is teaching children in his spare time. If you have retired already have you given up on live or are you pursuing your dreams? If you have retired yet, are you looking forward to it? What do you plan on doing in your retirement years?

Retirement is just part of a life and its same like joining the job. Yeah there are people who find an alternate even after retirement to just keep themselves busy. As you said a 95 year old professor still teaching maths is some thing great and still they try to keep that relationship with people in some way or the other. Both get benifited in these situations. Coming to me i will sure work even after retirement. I am just 28 now and if i am exact it will take atleast another 30 years for me to retire and that is only i get into the goverment organisation. Since i am with the software companies we dont have a retirement age or some thing like that. So i guess i will work till i am 65 and will take a break from regular job. After quitting the regular job i will find some replacement to just keep myself busy and to server the public in one way or the other.

For me, when someone is retiring it means they wanted to live and settle down after years and years of working and they wanted to make use of the pay they have worked for over the past years. Most of the retired people I know are traveling, investing, an helping out other. I mean this is something they ever wanted to do ever since probably. I'm actually way too far from my retiring year, actually I'm not even starting hehehe.. Maybe when I get 50+ or something.

We will never be able to retire we have nothing to be able to retire on. No nest egg nothing. I seen on television the other day a woman turned 115 years old can you imagine getting to be that age? She got a plaque and her name in the world book of being the oldest living person..hmmm just think if they had added people from the bible..now that would be a hard record to be nowdays. My stepdad retired and he has nothing to do. It can be hard on people who have worked then just stop when retiring. I think for them to continue to work it will help keep their minds sharp and their bodies healthier, then sititng at home watching the tube and twittling their thumbs. My stepdad is thinking of taking up some parttime work to help keep the boredom blues away. I feel that alot of elederly get depressed because of having nothing to do, or being able to do anything. I would love to be one of the majority looking foward to retirement and be able to affors travel to italy or france because they are only places we have seen on t.v. or read about. Dreams..Maybe I shouyld start playing the lottery maybe i'd win..

yep you have to put in your mind now that one day you will retire we all do and how prepared will you be at that time, money is only one element of retirement, keeping the body and the mind active is the other. I am disabled now with nothing to do but I do teach through my writing and I hope that helps people.

I agree with the views .Retirement means retire from service on attaining the age of superannuation. I think after retirement from the service real life is started where you can do lots of thing. I have seen so many professional persons who after retirement doing the same job with full swing and zeal.i can give an example in my school One of my teacher after retirement from the service engaged himself in a teaching jobs and he still operated a school where he is giving teaching to the poor students free of cost. He is doing a noble job. pkc3000

With the internet business boom, many retired people are working from home as a hobby and it allows them the freedom of having a continuous stream of income while they supplement their retirement checks. I share all I know about nutrition, both as a hobby and as a means of income....I love my life at www.shaklee.net/brady

I plan on traveling with my husband in our retirement years. Especially to California to my husband's cabin near big bear. We will still be young, so that will be a interesting trip, hopefully, the gas problem will be fixed, or another way to travel will be around by then in 12 years after our youngest graduates.

Relax and joy the mountains. When California had the fires last year, I kept up to date information because the fires in the mountains was very close to the cabin. I got to see a lot of beautiful pictures of the lakes up there which many areas gets there name. Plus it will be nice to relax and not worry to much about our kids, because knowing our luck, they will be with us.

As writers rarely retire, I don't think I'll be doing the whole retirement thing in the traditional sense. But I do plan to retire from the advocacy job I plan to get. At which time, I plan to take college courses, write more, travel, and focus on activism.

I do not forsee myself ever seeing retirement. Many people who are retired do not make enough money to even survive. Alot of them have to find some kind of work so they can afford to pay their bills and alot of people have to have medication or see a doctor on a regular basis and that takes evem more money. I think it all depends on if you are physically able to move forward in your life after retiring. Retirement for most people, means no more working. It should be a time to sit back and relax and enjoy life, but most people cannot afford that. The way that the government is going here in the U.S., there may not even be retirment for alot of us, unless we put back our own money for it.

yep it is just as bad here in Canada as well. There will not be enough money for retirement, the baby boomers are a big chunk of the Canadian population.

Well, it is right! Even if you retire that doesn't mean that you give up in life. It does not mean you are useless and hopeless. If I were you I would make use of my life. Do more and live the remaining years of my life and enjoy it with my love ones.

I hope you are talking about yourself because this question is about what you would do. I am disabled so that is like retired and I still work very hard, I am an accomplished professional writer and author of two books.

you are so right! Retirement to me means you are now starting to enjoy your life, probably after raising your children and maybe grandkids. I am a retiree, the kids are all grown with their own families. I can do whatever I want to do. I am seriously thnking of writng my book and taking some extra courses. Hiello to all you retirees; this is your free time;enjoy every moment of it. You dont have to sit at home and think it's all over, for you this is your new age. Get out there and do whatever you are cable of doing.

I am still young but I know that retire doesn't mean the end of your life. It's how you prepare to get there and what will you do then. I prefer to travel around the world (if possible), take some courses and do some investment for fun.

I have several plans, which include taking a college class, do some writing, as use to write poetry, and travel. I would like to take a poetry class at college, as it would encourage me to write. I haven't seen all 50 states and want to see them all. First want to see Hawaii or Alaska, if the weather isn't bad at the time. Next I want to visit Maine and the area around that state and then travel to Florida to see the amusement parks. In a few years, I want to see the tulips in Holland. I have seen pictures of the Tulip Festival and would like to see it myself. Everyone knows how much I love flowers.

Hmmm.. it got me thinking.. what will I be doing? Let me share this dream. I have been wanting to speak and become a motivational speaker soon. I don't know how it would be like to be a coach or a motivational speaker but in due time when I have gained more experiences and have learned a lot from life, I can share them so others will get inspired. I am still young and I haven't yet tasted the gist in life but I am learning the art and good ways and skills in communication so I can speak comfortably and well in public. As of today, I am attending regularly in my toastmasters club. It is a non-profit international club that will help out with its programs to hasten communication and even leadership skills. You may want to take a look at it (http://www.toastmasters.org/) and tell me if my future dream can be possible with the skills I learn from it.. Maybe you have more suggestions on ways or aspects I could work on.. Thanks mommy Rose..

I don;t know if you can be much help but if you encourage him to share his experiences on the net maybe write about what he did in life, what he learned etc, or tech young kids at a youth center etc. It will be hard because he has to want to do it himself.
