It's a sleeping disorder. I wouldn't say it's a disease. It seems more like a psychological problem. Most people have suffered from it before. However, for some, it only last for a little while and for others, it can last for a long time. I guess people who are highly stressed or who worry a lot are more prone to it. Their active mind are keeping them from sleeping.

well friend, insomnia is the medical term for sleeplessness. Its a diseased condition that can have a spectrum of causes behind it. The common causes of insomnia may be organic, relating to functions & structure of human brain or functional relating to psychiatric conditions like excessive stress. Insomnia for prolonged periods can be very disturbing & can itself give rise to a lot of medical & mental conditions. Thank you. have a nice time at mylot.

Insomnia is where sleep patterns are disrupted, often for no apparent reason. Insomnia is not a disease but it can be caused by an existing disease. Elderly people are most prone to insomnia because their production of melatonin begins to get lazy. Others who may be prone to insomnia are those with a lot of stress in their lives as well as those suffering with post traumatic stress disorder.

Insomnia is a not a disease because it cant be spread to each other ^_^ It's just a sleeping disorder whereby one cant get to sleep for unknown reasons and thsu affecting their behaviour ^_^ Insomnia can happen to anyone anytime, even though one has got no history of insomnia ^_^ But usually what causes insomnia, are stress and anxiety, they are the greatest culprit of all.. I guess by knowing how to relax onself, insomnia wun happen to u ^_^

I believe that it is a condition not a disease. Insomnia can be do to many things. It can be caused by depression, shock, sudden loss, stress, and diet. Some people eat or drink to many foods or beverages with caffeine before bed time, and this can make sleeping difficult for them. Some people are just to wound up to sleep because they are excited or worried about something. Most people with insomnia don't have it permanently usually if become less stressed or start to recover from something tragic or shocking their normal sleep patterns return. Those who can not sleep although other things in their life are well balanced, may need to take a seriousl look at their diet.

If one does not need much sleep and does not feel upset if he/she doesn't sleep then it is not a disease. Biologically, people need different durations of sleep. On an average, I sleep for 5 hours a day and it is quite ok for me. But if body feels like sleeing and one cannot sleep then it is a disorder related to nervous system.

Hello bbsr,We can see what is the definition of the insomnia, "Insomnia is a sleeping disorder characterized by persistent difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep despite the opportunity. It is typically followed by functional impairment while awake. Insomniacs have been known to complain about being unable to close their eyes or "rest their mind" for more than a few minutes at a time. Both organic and non-organic insomnia constitute a sleep disorder." I think we can escape from it by ordering our life style.Or if it makes a big problems then we must consult a doctor. Thanks

I think we need a clarification about the essence of insomnia. insomnia can be defined a disease or not according to two different kinds of situations. If one can't fall asleep becuase is worrying about something which keeps his mind active, it can't be considered a insomnia. As long as he can handle it properly, he can solve insomnia problem too. If one is not worrying about anything or thinking continuously, that is to say, for no reasons, insomnia may considered a disease then and the sick person should consult a doctor for help. Insomnia is really hard to get rid of. I personally the best way to overcome it is to forget it.
