i am capable of doing so many things in my life and doing them well but the one thing i cannot seem to do is lose weight. i have tried everything and no matter what i do i stay on a diet for awhile and then stress undoes all my efforts. food certainly is not more important than my life or my health so why on earth do i struggle with this and why can't i overcome it? have you struggled with trying to lose weight for years and are you at your wits end too? i need to do this once and for all. i have a son who i want to be here for. any pearls of wisdom?

I was injured and after that injury gained over 100 lbs. The weight gain was harder on my than the injury even though the injury was traumatic - the result of a violent crime that nearly cost me my life. The weight gain cost me my self-confidence as a woman. It cost me my belief in myself. It cost me self-esteem. It cost me value in the eyes of society. It cost me career status and the ability to move in my career. It cost me health wise too, but for a long time that was far less important to me. It has been 10 years of battling all of the above. So first things first. There are no secret hand shakes or diets. There is no such thing. First you come to terms with yourself. I came to terms with the idea that what is inside of my head and heart is still the perfect me. If Cosmopolitian ever calls looking for a Fearless woman they will simply need a foldout for my feature. That was step one. Then I got with my doctor for a complete check-up. I have physical limitations due to my injuries. They will never go away. I had to understand them so that I could work within them and still push myself. Then I got on-line and started to study. Ultimately I joined a site that provided meal planning, motivation, exercise planning, meal tracking, and a great number of other tools that are useful to me. The site is Diet.com. The use real food and your personal habits and eating styles to help my plan your food intake. There are lots of other members to help motivate you. There are contests and blogs. There are menus and receipes. There are trackers and tools. The cost for membership is reasonable at $19 USD per month. If you really focus and use what is offered you get your money worth. No tricks and no gimmicks. You learn to eat correctly. You learn to plan healthy meals. You learn to love food the right way. Even with a family. Last year when I started in 6 months I lost 46 lbs. I reinjured in a fall and had to take some time off but now have restarted my exercise program. Exercise is the key to this by the way. I did join a gym, if that is out of the question...walk! But some dumbbells and a magazine and start to work. It isn't a diet it is a life change. It isn't quick but it can be done!
