Will you work overtime if you are getting paid extra?

So, if your employer/boss asks you to stay back in the office and work some more time and ready to pay for it, will you go for it? or reject it? It is a recent trend amongst youngsters to work overtime and earn some extra bucks very quickly. it would help them, but once they are married and settled, it may not be possible for them to stay back in the office even after their duty hours... so, what would you say, please share your opinions and inputs with us...

With the company I work for the employees would ONLY stay behind to work overtime if they were getting paid for it and it is quite common as normally the overtime rate it as time and half of the normal per hour rate so it works out to mean quite a bit extra just by doing a few extra hours per week!

No not at all! I regularly work overtime during a months period to enable me to come out with a good extra wage. Always works out handy!

I already work overtime hours willingly. any hours i work overtime my boss and i have agreed that i can bank to use as extra vacation time. This being my choice over overtime pay as that bumps me into a higher tax bracket and i dont end up taking much of the money home then.

I would work overtime, because you usually get paid time and a half. Unlike when I was working in sales. Then again, you have a good point about when you're young. When I was young I almost always worked 2 jobs to earn the extra money.

I've been in both extremes....I've had a job where 60-70 hours a week was not even enough to keep up with the demands of the job (it was a quick-print facility), and I have been in jobs (like the one I have now) where I pend part of my 40-hour work week finding stuff to do online.... I guess what I'm saying is that, if there is work to be done, I don't mind working over at all. But, if there is barely enough to fill the regular day, then I am more than ready to go home when 5pm rolls around. As for the young people, I worked the 60-70 hour week when I first got married, and it strained my relationship with my husband more than once. Now, we have plenty of time to spend together because neither one of ever has to work much overtime.

I don't generally like to work overtime if it's unplanned. I don't like to be asked about a half hour or fifteen minutes before it's time to leave to stay overtime. By the time I am ready to leave work, I have already made plans for after work. Now, if they ask me before that day to stay over, I usually say yes. Or, even if they ask me early in that day I will do it. But, not right as I'm getting ready to leave, that just really upsets me.

In my case, once it will not be too often and longer, I will say yes to it for it will help me in any project i am planning for my family and for the house or for my savings! Not too often since I know my husband and i will be working and after work is only our time to bond together and if I will do it regularly, i know i will be very unfair to our relationship!

ya, when you have enough time, you might stay back late, but once you are married, you may not prefer to stay back...

Hi vinubaby, I'm 21 going on 22 and yes I would work overtime if I was getting extra pay. I mean as a student you could always use the extra money for many other things. But I had a boss that likes to keep us back for up to half hour sometimes and she doesn't pay overtime. It's cause the older workers there gave her the habit to do this! They even stated that I should start working as soon as I get in, but I simply said, the boss said 8am is the beginning of the workday so don't expect me to wokr till then. Now why do I act like this? I'm one person who hates to be pushed around and I am nice but i let people know that they can't walk all over me.

At my job, there is often the chance to work overtime. I work it in spurts though. For a while I will work all the overtime I can get, and this may go on for a month or so, and then I will want none for a while.

The over time is nice for the fact you get extra money. The only time I really care for alot of over time is around christmas time. I know I can have extra money to buy extra gifts. I may get a the most an hour over time here and there now but after working all night all I really want to do is just work my normal hours and go home.

It all depends if I need the money, sometimes, it is not important, especially is you need to spend qaulity time with you family.

Dear vinubaby123 If my boss/employer ask me to work extra hours beyond my normal duties definitely I will perform the extra hours for the interest of the company as well as for my personal gain as in lieu of work I will get wages twice the normal rate. Over time is being done occasionally not daily. It is not possible for any body to work daily on OT as there will be lots of mental and physical stress. I also agreed that after marriage you will have to spare your time with your family hence some time it is not possible to perform Over time. but for better living to earn money is also essential. pkc3000

I would definitely work overtime if I will be paid for it! In fact, I do work overtime even if I am not paid for it. I am currently teaching (in college) and I do work extra hours even at home. I have to prepare lectures. I have to check papers. I have to compute grades. Sometimes, I end up doing these things even during the weekend or until the wee hours of the night. What we are only paid are the actual time we spend in our classroom. I guess it is commitment...

Why not? Right now, we need extra income to pay the bills. Of course, this will be a major decision that hubby and I should make. Sometimes, we need to make sacrifices in order to come up with a solution to our major problem. If the major problem is financial, I am willing to do that and I know hubby will understand. Maybe not all the time but we can talk it over and come up with the best solution.

I would love to work overtime if I get extra money as long as I am married or I am need of some money. As long as you have no other responsibilties I think doing extra piece of work is a great way of making some extra cash.
