I heard somewhere once that eating bananas in the summer will make you attract more mostquitos. It was supposedly something about the postassium that makes your blood taste better to the mosquitos or something. I really hated hearing that because I really like bananas and they are more affordable in the summer. I am not really sure if i believe that this is true or if it is just a myth. What do you think? Do you believe that eating bananas makes you more attractive to mosquitos? Do you avoid eating bananas during the bug season for this reason?

I'm not sure if its true, but my grandpa always said this too. He would never eat a banana when he knew he would be going outside. And would ask grandma not to pack them for picnics. So I've always followed his lead. I've never tested it to be sure.

My grandpa made it sound like it was dependant on time. He still ate bananas, just not within so many hours of spending a lot of time outside.

I have never heard of such a thing. Try some insect skin repellent. They have lotion like this, that wards off insects from biting you.

postassium - We need it to survive. Without it, we die.
I don't know how true it is or not but I can tell you this about postassium, without it we will surely die. It's a chemical element in which plays an important role in the responding of nerves to stimulation and in the movement of muscles. My mother has a postassium problem in which she has to take it in a pill form. One doctor told her to come off of it for a while and she did then one night she woke up and could barely move and it got worse as minutes went by to the point that she couldn't move at all. When the blood work came back showing she had very little postassium in her blood, the doctor said she had one hour to live for her lungs were next to shut down. So that's how important postassium is to one's body. We all need it to survive. Without it, we'll die. No question about it. So if mosquitos are attracted to it then they're attracted to it, we can't live without it.

hi nykkee, oh i don't think so. Clean your surroundings to avoid mosquitoes specially stagnant water. Old tires the favorite place of mosquitoes. The bananas has nothing to do with it. You apply mosquito repellant lotion evrytime you eat bananas if you find it the reason mosquitos attracts you.

I always use bug repellant, but unfortunately we can't prevent them from exisiting here, becuase this whole area in behind the houses is swampy woods and small lakes and stuff, so the bugs are everywhere, but there is no standing water in our actual yard, I am just trying to keep them away from the area outside the house that we use. For that I am useing citronella incense and planting bug repelling plants. We are also considering one of those bug killing machines.

bananas attracting mosquitos? hmmm... that is something i have not heard of in the topic of mosquitos. as far as i have heard and read, hehe.. mosquitos are attracted to us because of a lot of things. they are attracted to us because of our perfume, or the lotion we use or even some of the body odor that we give off. in an article that i have read, it even said that 'lactic acid thats present on human skin - is a mosquito attractant. heres the link if you are interested: http://www.ars.usda.gov/is/AR/archive/feb00/mosq0200.htm

I think it has more to do with your blood tasting sweet! The mosquitoes can smell the sweetness of your blood and will bite the people with the most sweetness!

Well, I like bananas, too but I have not heard anything like that. I do not avoid eating bananas in any season as mosquitos are almost in every season in the area where I live here in India.
